Hi,
I was looking at getting a cyclocross bike for my commute to work. My ride is a mix of road and cycle paths (which are a bit muddy in areas)
I've been looking at Whyte Saxon cross and Boardmans CX. Has anyone got the whyte's as I can't find any reviews on them?
Is there any other cyclocross bikes I should look at? My budget is £1000-1300.
Any help would gratefull

Pinnacle Arkrose 3.

Got mine in April on c2w, done maybe 2000 miles, mainly mixed trail commuting like you describe. 105 has been faultless, BB7 brakes almost too good and contributing to wear on the rear small block 8 tyre. Currentlywearing 32mm slicks for some grotty weather road riding while I decide what rear tyre to replace it with.

In the true spirit of STW recommendations, the one I have: Rose Pro DX 4400

You'll be hard pushed to beat the spec for the price (though the Boardman is also great especially with the British Cycling discount)

Funny you should ask this, but I went into Edinburgh Bikes to buy a Whyte 'cross and bought this instead:

I can recommend it-

And its in their sale, so a good bit under your budget. I'm literally just back in from a run on it, where I experimentally out some Gatorskins on. Turned out fine.

A colleague has bought a Saxon Cross after looking at many alternatives. Don't think he's ridden it yet. Looks nice.

THe only Rose bike I have seen was poorly finished, had a warranty problem, and had to be re-set up by us after return as it hadn't been finished properly.

I think they are pretty good but the price is bumped up with highly rated TRP HyRd brakes but as other people don't get on with BB5/7's which come standard on most disc cyclocross bikes you may save a later day upgrade. Also comes with 46cm wide bars for the wider shouldered riders were as most come with 44cm.

Not my experience at all.

Mine did go back, but that was an order screw-up on the new website not a finish issue. Seemed well put together to me. Ridden it regularly for about 8 months now and I'm very happy with it.

I looked at the Whyte and the Croix de Fer before I bought the Rose.

Both nice bikes, but I was put off by the weight.

have you fitted full guards to your revolution codybrennan? I know there's mounts but how much clearance with knobbly tyres etc?

The Rose does look nice with a good spec, but I like to try the bike out for size etc before I buy. Going to make a trip to my local bike shop I think 🙂
