Anyone done one of these with your other half?
What firms would you recommend? Wheel to wheel is one that springs to mind.
Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

Having been at Devin and Bratislava last week, all I could say is if is as well marked as the sections I walked on, you could do it yourself without a guide.

I've done it twice now, once with my wife and once with my family. When I did it with my wife we booked it all ourselves and it was about half the price of doing it with a firm.

Each has its pros and cons- with a firm your bags were shuttled, so you could take more stuff, some train tickets were included for the boring bits and you had a meal guaranteed every night. Doing it ourselves was much cheaper, we didn't have to use horrible Dutch style bijes and we could eat where we liked and not have to eat the included meal of schnitzel every night. It is very well signposted.

My wife was pretty into her cycling at the time and we would have had a great time had it not flooded. We woke up in Melk to find people being rescued from their upstairs windows in boats. We'd suffered four days of riding in torrential rain. We stopped in one storm in a MacDonalds and even though we didn't buy anything to eat they felt so sorry for us they gave us free tea.

The next trip was sunny and lovely. My mum, who hardly cycles at all, did fine as it's essentially all downhill. We got the train for half the journey to Linz from Passau, and again into Vienna from Korneuburg.

Vienna is a shithole, which is a shame, but the rest of Austria was lovely. The first time we carried on to Bratislava and that's a great city.

Let me know if you want any more advice, my email is in my profile.

Seems a common trip in the CTC* magazine. Check out on their forum perhaps.

Booked through me of course, like you have to ask 😉

Luggage transfer and bare minimum for the day on the bike is very popular with the leisure cycling female. The friendly voice at the end go a phone for help and replacement bikes on tap also help. We're in Cycle too.

I cycled to Budapest one summer. I'd just get on and do it. No shortage of accommodation, well signed, essentially all down hill. Basically flat so carrying a bit of luggage is no issues. It's a well trodden route and they are well prepared for cyclists.
