I have a Garmin device that i use for recording my running and riding.

The recent sales meant i have been able to afford a Stages power meter. Today i used it for my first outing and it has thrown up a load of data. Bearing in mind im 50 and 83kg and that it was fitted to my tourer, can someone help me to interpret the data?

When i run hard, it tells me i have a VO2 max of 51 ml/kg/min....

avg hr 133
max hr 162
training effect 4.0

avg power 150w
max avg power (20mins) 207w
normalized power 187w
intensity factor 0.467
training stress score 70.9
ftp setting 400w

im assuming im not going to conquer the world, but what does it mean and how am i doing?

thanks

You are on the bottom end of the beginner/Cat 5 spectrum as far as the power to weight is concerned (2.5), according to http://www.bicycling.com/training/fitness/formula-faster-climbing

I think the whole point of the numbers is to measure up against yourself once you collect a big enough body of data.

Did you set the ftp to 400w or is that some sort of default?

It also depends how hard you're riding.

This table from training peaks is a useful comparison for ranking but it assumes you're going out hard for the duration of the effort..

If you're max avg 20 minutes was as part of a 3 hour pootle it isn't a useful comparison.

I didnt set that ftp figure, so it must be a default i think. All the data has been from my 3+ hr ride on a 35lb bike.

I'd suggest having a read of this Training with Power and step onto the slippery slope...

As people above have alluded to; intensity factor, training stress score and your ftp numbers are pretty much useless unless you do an ftp test. Trainingpeaks is a great tool if you want to start taking your training seriously.
