AS a driver of just over a week I've got to admit that it's knackering - loads of concentration, brain on overdrive tracking everything etc - a littles less knackering each time (bit easier now i've stopped gripping the steering wheel had enough to turn my knuckles white), admittedly, but still knackering nonetheless.
I keep looking at the map and thinking about all the ace places i could drive to and then ride but i keep thinking, "But, uhh, won't i be too knacked to enjoy the ride?"
So: does it get easier? Do i just have to put up with being knackered all the time but getting to ride in new and interesting places? Is well-timed snackage the answer?
Ta.
Like most things in life, it gets easier with pracice although far too many people save energy while driving by not concentrating!
not sure I ever found driving tiring, maybe that was just teenage bravado and being a bit less aware
It does get easier. I would suggest going for a Pass Plus course if you find that you are still not doing the motor skills automatically though.
i find the weekly commute tiring. 150 miles each way enjoying the pleasures of the M5 and M6, but i have done a 300miles trip and felt fresh.
Depends on the car, some cars cruise happily others need more input. It also depends on the roads, motorways are both easy and hard, you don't have to worry about junctions, but i find i sometimes switch off, and when you suddenly come up on stationary traffic
It gets easier. It doesn't help that you are starting driving when it gets dark so early and the roads are no fun. You can go for a fun drive to somewhere interesting just to get used to things. More do more get better.
i regularly drive for 2.5 hours to ride and then drive back in the same day.
i find driving quite relaxing after a ride.
Yeah, what's being said about different kinds of journeys makes a lot of sene. So far I've commuted across town (in the dark) and taken various combinations of missus and 3 kids (2-7) either across town or for a walk which ended in (a) a coughing fit and (b) floods of tears. So maybe a nice, calm drive with just me and a bike would make a world of difference.

Yeah, I think I've been doing their concentrating for them ๐
Thanks all by the way
I only drive two or three times a month, I tend to quite enjoy a road runs, but less so motorways. I tend find once I've started riding I perk up, and find the drive back quite relaxing. I'm a ****ing useless driver, mind.
Top tip: Take the stress of concentrating on driving away by having an ace conversation with a pal on the mobile.
Many drivers find this helps!
This is a joke BTW ๐
it gets better. I like a good drive at times. Bit of music, nice place to drive, and you feel fantastic
