So what size disc rotors are people using on their CX bikes? I've got some BB7s on the way and they're 140 rotors. I'm thinking of upping the front to 160 or should I be looking at 160 on both ends?

I'd give 140 a go - there are many who say discs are overkill! (I'm not one of them)

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. I'll have two sets of wheels for the bike (with road and CX tyres on) so I'll use the two 140 discs for the rear wheels and I have a couple of 160s spare already.

"I think this one has 160's at each end"

it does, you could easy go down to 140 without losing much power

[edit]
but that's with hydro discs, you might need more help with cable-discs

got 160 both ends on mine with bb7. More power than the tyres can cope with, especially on wet tarmac.

Well that's kind of what I'm thinking. I have 203/180 on my 29er but considering relative grip, I suspect that 160/140 wouldn't be silly on a CX

I think the disk would be sawing through the stays at the back...

I was meaning 140 front would be OK.

Try locking up your front wheel - it's impossible unless you are an extreeeeeeeeeeeeeemely advanced rider ๐Ÿ˜‰ even on a road bike.

And no one ever complains about having brakes that are too powerful.

Yeah, maybe but since I already have 160s spare...

Oh and I've definitely locked up the front ๐Ÿ˜‰ Admittedly on offcamber, muddy trails but then that's how I roll when on my CX bike...
