This may be of interest to some on here, a quick read to draw your eyes from the boob-tube.

Probably the nicest thing I've come up with this year (the bike that is).

Enjoy.

Lovely bike. What is the unsagged head angle, c.65?

Out of interest given it is custom and where you work why don't you push the bottle mounts as far down the downtime as possible for lower centre of mass when the bottle is full/is holding a fair bit of water?

TBH I wouldn't take a bimblefest plus bike anywhere near these 'steep'trails

64.5 Unsagged, possibly meaningless other than for quick comparisons but hey ho!

Interesting point re. Bottle cage, it has been put lower in the DT than say my Stoater. It's also to keep a nice smooth bend to the cable driven dropper. Minimum resistance is the goal after all.

Nice build - great to see other people trying out their own thing!

Not sure I recognise your comments about 415mm stays. I've been running a 29er with 405mm for the last 5 years, and mk1 (e-stay) a smidge shorter for a year before that. The only time its been a handful was on prolonged stupidly steep and rocky stuff in the Pyrenees. Different stuff suits different people I guess (which is the whole point of custom experiments). Guess it is also how the whole geo and rider works together (not just one dimension in isolation).

Time for a new frame before alps this summer. Still thinking of a short back end, but maybe a longer front similar to a Mondraker prime r+. Also want to increase the front end lateral stiffness. Really fancied a flat oval top tube but Reynolds have discontinued the one I was planning to use.

Coincidentally I also read the P*D seat tube thing last night. He makes great things but I can only tolerate small doses of the binary "my way is the only correct way" attitude.

Mick, could be the stiffness of the Tonic coupled with the length. First ride immediately reminded me of my old box section rear Chameleon, fun but you'd New fillings after each ride.

For me the idea was to produce something more forgiving than my last frame. I think it worked out as a nice compromise. As the meat component of the bike I don't need to be tenderised.

Totally agree with you on PVD.

That's really nice. 435mm chainstays feel about right on my Sherpa.

That's lovely.

I went for longer stays on my last (current) custom HT and really like it after two customs from Mr Shand with very short stays.
There's no right or wrong really, I like both.
Settling at 435 on a B+ HT sounds ideal really.
