Need some help guys - got some 2006 crossrides on the commuting bike, and given the miles its seen, decided to change the cassette..
Easily done, but when putting it all back together, noticed that the cassette has quite a bit of play in on the freehub, even though it is definatly tight..
Also, the freehub doesn't always want to engauge, so you can pedal without anything actually happening..
Can anyone help, or is it new rear wheel time?
Cheers,
Rich

I had the same issue on my crossmax wheels. I bought those two items and it perfect now. I also bought some mavic branded oil and give it a squirt of that every couple of months or so. Hopefully that will mean it lasts longer because the freehubs are cheap!

If the freehub is wobbling it usually means the inboard freehub bearing is knackered its a plastic bush and not replaceable. I am afraid you need to buy a new freehub which costs about £45 plus you might as well replace the pawls which cost about £15.

It is dead easy to service the freehub only takes about 20 minutes go onto the mavic site for the service info

Happens a lot with Crossmax's as well. Usually clean the dust and crap from the pawls ( the pick up ) and alls well again. Not sure you should WD 40 or oil the pawls as this just help the dust gum them up. Have a few spare pawls' Rolls. Ooooooo the latest ones are ceramic! but youre not having them!!!!!

PS. Hows the new Santa Cruise? Is it super? And is it light?

Cheers for the replies chaps! - will get the new bits ordered, and have a play methinks...
And G, yeah, new bike is looking well.. - just need to get the XTR chainset ordered, shorten the brake hoses, and she should climb like a mountain goat... Baggy Bill, and Phelpes won't be able to keep up!
You decided what you're going to do bike wise as yet?

Rolls,
Just try cleaning everything fist and see it it works. Bike wise, I'm being lazy and doing nothing. Most probaly back to a very light hardtail later in the year. Its a shame S_works minor doesn't ride large frames, I could use his Epic, cause' he doesnt!

PS Maybe the end of march for North Wales, Thursday to Sunday?

End of march sounds like a plan to me 😉
Knew it wouldn't be long before you'd be back on a bone shaker! - bet its carbon this time mind!
AS for the cleaning - may as well give it a go - nothing to lose I guess!
