While rebuilding my DH bike, the non drive side pedal has cross threaded the crank arm. (not me, my mate in the local shop)
As I've never cross threaded anything, I'm wondering how secure it will be? I'm taking the bike to the alps at the end of the month and don't want to have any problems with it.
I'm happy to leave it in, if it will not cause a problem and helicoil it when it comes to changing pedals.
Not secure enough to risk your holiday in the Alps, IMO. Get it helicoiled before you go.
so he screwed it in slightly, cross threaded, then it was removed and done properly?
I doubt any damage to the threads would cause any problems.
You don't mean that it's cross threaded and screwed all the way in?

Yup, daft I know, but it is done now, so I've got to try and find a solution.
new pedal and crank arm IMO
Helicoil if you can get one but they are rare as its an odd size and one side is a reverse thread.
I do not really understand tho how it could be all the way in and cross threaded - usually they won't go more than a turn or two cross threaded and would require huge force to force it.
I'm think that a 2nd hand HT2 crank arm is the way to go. I'll try running the pedal through the crank from the other side and see what happens.

might be because you're screwing it into a soft alloy thread, so easier to squish. There would still be very obvious resistance tho.
not sure if this will work, but could you try screwing the pedal in from the back side of the crank to try and rethread it. [edit: beaten too it]
Beggars belief that your mate works in LBS and did this.
Decent LBS may have a tap to run through the crank. Even if the crank thread is fubared, the pedal may be OK.
^^^^ That. A pedal should be screwed in by hand until the final few turns to nip it tight. Actually, that goes for any threaded part...
i have both taps if you want to borrow them (lh and rh)
That would be awesome ๐ I'll send you an email.
Taps may work but if it properly cross threaded you may need the Cyclus thread destoyer and tap with which will create a larger thread. Then fit the Cyclus pedal bushes and problem solved. I have all these bits if you want to drop by or any decent LBS should have these tools and bushes.
