Twice this has happened now. After biking for almost 4 hours I get cramp in both my Quads...grrrr.
Am I not getting the fluids in ( doesn't feel like )
Could it be my riding style / position?
Any tips or hints?
Have you been increasing time and mileage?
Good electrolyte drink as you ride.
Check Seat height as you could be too low and working the quads too much.
Clipless pedals to utilise Hamstrings and glutes.
Eat healthy and increase mileage by 10% each training session and not loads.
How long has it been going for?
Good cool down for 10 minutes of slow easy riding to get rid of that Lactic acid to Lactate again.
Add Elete water to whatever you drink, I'm very very impressed with it's ability to stop cramp!
Seat height is fine.My Leg is almost straight when clipped in.
Normal rides around Afan are fine.Got the cramp just as I was finishing Skyline before and then again on Saturday after getting to the top of the Brinore Tramway after doing the Gap.
Think half the problem is my usual rides are 15 miles or so, and this was 20 +.
I had Lemon squash in camel back.Maybe I'll try adding stuff ?
Q WHen do you get the cramp eg during the ride or after? etc out of interest.
During. No issue's after other than soreness after.Could feel legs getting tight, then getting off the bike . . . double whammy !!
There is the traditional theory regarding cramp; that it is related to electrolytes, but these folk think differently;

Basically, you get cramp because you are fatigued. So train smarter.
