Hi all,

I am about to buy a cove hustler 2008 frame for a build but cannot find anywhere the details of what steerer tube width i need. 1 1/5 or 1 1/8. Does anyone know? i am trying to find forks to buy so they arrive at the same time, but not sure what to get.

Thanks

Nice purchase !

There's some frame geometry here:

http://www.silverfish-uk.com/DocumentHandler/10195

Yep - 1-1/8". And it's quite a headtube - machined from a lump of aluminium, so solid as a rock. Get a CK headset in there...it'll last a lifetime.

Cove rated these frames as max fork travel 150mm. They feel brilliant with anything from 120mm up to 160mm in my opinion....

What colour are you getting ?

Rockshox - Sektor, Revelation or Pike depending on budget etc.

I've got 150 Rev's RLT 15MM on my Hustler - great fork for the bang.

Cheers for feedback guys. Pic looks awesome.

Its a white frame. Its built but basic ish in some parts and the forks are broke, so Im already on the hunt for upgrades. Hence the questions. thinking probably £120 ish budget for the forks at this stage so i know i cant get anything epic yet, but it will be enough to get it running and then maybe look for something better at a later stage.

Cheers

150 revs on mine, ran 130mm marzocchis for a while and still felt good. As above really, there good bikes that will do pretty much everything!

I had a medium and my fork had a 200mm steerer which allowed for a couple of spacers and the stem.

Ran a 160mm Fox 36 float and a 140mm Pike (old model). Better suited to the Pike for general trail riding.

140 Revs on mine, had old Pikes on before - you should be able to pick some up for around your budget. Mine is one of the later ones, large and head tube length is ~130mm

That's why I posted the official frame geometry chart for you - if you've already got your own headset, you can measure the stack height. If your frame comes with headset fitted, ask the previous owner what length steerer they ran and whether they had spacers fitted or not.

Dave - cheers, definitely interested. Are stanctions clean?

Disc jockey - gotcha, im new to the building side so will be full of stupid questions, and mistakes through the build. Right of passage though to build a bike I guess. Been riding 2 years and had ready built bikes before so just tinkered when doing upgrades. Cheers

I've owned 3 over the years with Pikes, Floats and Revs. Never went past 140mm. Around 130mm was bob on. Great bikes which were way past my abilities.

Good luck with the build, they are great bikes.
Run mine with 150mm revs. Used to have u-turns set to 135mm but now prefer 150mm. Between 130mm and 150mm you'll be fine.
If you decide to go down the dropper post route may want to consider getting the seat tube reamed out to 30.9mm so you can fit a reverb.

I use fox float (2011) rlc's... great forks i've also rand dt swiss xmm 140's but prefer the fox's.

With a hope headset my steerer is 195mm and takes a 5mm spacer above the stem, stem has a 35mm stack height.

Great bikes. Had 140mm on mine - loved it until it snapped

The new 650b prototype looks pretty nice too. Different suspension design, suprised they didn't go with the VPP one on the g-spot
