I'm planning a 10-day tour of this beautiful island later in the month, riding MTB's and bivvying all the way. We want to ride the quietest lanes and dirt tracks and have the occasional foray up a mountain or three.

Any tips for the best routes / what to avoid / what not to miss?

yes leave the bike at home
instead bring a kite surf or some walking shoes.

My wife comes from Corsica, it is a great place for food, wine, culture, outdoor life, walking, climbing, diving etc. Ive been there about 10 times now. But when i took my mtb there it was 30 degrees and the hills very very steep. Also the lack of population means the trails are under used, very overgorwn or non existant. Some are also very rocky, not in a technical way, in a non ridable way. We did find some places high in the mountains where it was cooler, but not round the coast. I would recommend getting some local help in choosing routes. Just attempting to use a map as I did will leave you frustrated as most of the ones I tried were too difficult / overgrown / unridable. The magazine did a story years ago about some chaps that tried a famous cross island ride - even they said it was tough and involved loads of carrying.
