I'll be on holiday in Corsica in July. It's a family holiday rather than a bike holiday. I'll have my road bike and either gravel or XC hardtail with me. Staying near Bastia and ride from the door rather than drive to ride.

Looking for good off road (single-track and or gravel) route advice. I've had a look on a few sites but not much showing up in that region.Â
Â
Anyone have any knowledge, experience, suggestions?
Mainly been located in the south as in laws had a wee house there but did a full circuit of the island a fair few years ago, I'd say go gravel bike & explore the smaller roads, avoid the main roads they are truly horrible to ride due to traffic & off-road can be rocky in a fairly unpleasant way, some gravel tracks in the forests to ride. Enjoy it is a really lovely place to explore.
Â
Thanks, by main roads do you include the ones that cross over the mountainous areas as well as the more obvious more coastal routes?

The roads in the mountains look nice but did wonder if they would be busy in the summer
Yeah, talking about the coastal roads in south, south west & east to avoid mostly. Been a while but some of the mountain roads are great, not much experience of being there at high summer as too hot for me & like avoiding the crowds.
It's hot, steep and narrow IMHO!
It's a beautiful place but I can't think of many places where, in July, any of the roads were sufficiently quiet to make for a good road ride. And the roads are probably better suited to a gravel bike in many places as they break up and get covered in loose rocks and debris. Getting about the island by bike is a feat of endurance and daring.
Cap Corse is less busy than down south but it is an insanely steep landscape, so anything other than the coast roads are full of switchbacks and generally impatient Corsican drivers which is not a relaxing combination, even within the safe confines of a car.
There is a reason (or five) that it's not a cycling Mecca and I'd just just assume that any road or trail I'm going to be hitting is a double black diamond trail with uncontrolled wildlife jumping out at you to add to the thrill. All that said, the site here has some recommendations for the road. http://www.corsicacyclist.com/the-north.html
You could try Strava routes from where you're staying to see what gives, but definitely beware and don't underestimate the gnarr.Â
No comment on riding but flippin love Corsica me!!
I spent a week cycling out from Bastia. All on the road. This was in late September and the roads were empty. I could ride for an plus without seeing a car.Â
Once you leave the coastal plains the hills are punchy , the roads are mostly in good condition with some evidence of freeze thaw damage.
There's not alot of cafe or restaurants in the interior but the views are stunning up in the haute corse.
I found one climb that took me around an hour in my lowest gear with a compact group set.

There is , or was a big raid type event with a 100km plus loop for MTB . I saw a few guys riding it but having ridden the roads it would be brutal.
