Hi,

Anyone know if i can do this without using a tensioner? i.e. will the chain length be ok. Im using a standard LX middle ring (can't remember the size) and either a 16 or 18t rear cog.

Cheers

Try a half-link as well. and if that doesn't work bite the bullet and use a tensioner. The chances are you'll never get the exact tension without one.

I'd just bite the bullet now and buy a tensioner. 'magic' ratios only work for a while usually before chain stretch makes them slip and you often have to use a less than ideal gear ratio.

as clubber says really...

although somewhere there is another one of these:

which actually has the proper geared dropout too.

As stated, "magic ratios" will only work until chain stretches. Eccentic BB, Eccentric Hubs or tensioner is the way to go for virtical drop outs.

what about going the other way, can you make a standard slot / track end into a geared Inbred if there is no hanger?
