Is this a good idea?

Looks to be, if limited by hub and frame choice.

Should be fine. Other solution is a 12mm OD, 10mm ID aluminium tube but a single piece solution is preferable.

I'd like that for my mavic crosstrails. Currently use a 9mmQR with an insert but not as stiff as I'd like

I've done so on my Cove G-Spot and earlier on my 2010 Spicy - I've got Superstar hubs - they also sell 10mm axles and 10mm QR which makes it a dead easy conversion.

I had my doubts frankly - mostly I was looking for a way to avoid bending skewers or having them come loose - which had both happened to me before - but it really made for a much stiffer rear end - especially on the Lapierre which had an FSR style linkage with a pivot right at the back so a 2-piece rear-end - the Cove is stiffer by design but it still helped.

I know Superstar and Hope and others have specific conversions, this generic one seems just as good though.

@poah

Not as such, they have 10mm axles for their own hubs.

http://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/switch-rear-adaptor.htm

Which allow you to use 10mm Sort of Bolt-through / QR hybrid skewers.

http://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/10mm-rear-qr-through-axle.htm

So you end up with a 10mm steel bar across the full width of the recess for the axle on the frame and an over-sized QR mechanism to hold it in place rather than a threaded 10mm axle using half the width of the recess, a smaller mechanism and thing steel skewer holding the whole thing in place - it's stiffer and more secure, but there's a bit of a weight penalty.

DT Swiss have a similar set-up but obviously costs multiples of this.

The Hope system is a bit different and you screw a bolt in each end.

That's the Hope 10mm bolt up.

They also do a 10mm axle version

From the hope site for the rear hub: Conversions available for QR, 10mm bolt in, 10mm, 12mm and 142x12mm axles

And for the front hub: Conversions available for QR, 9mm, 15mm, and 20mm axles

Superstar sell cheap 9mm front and 10mm rear QRs that should work fine with them.

Is the product linked by the OP unique?

Have got a couple of non-convertible 135x12 rears that could find homes in 135 mm QR dropouts

not the same as the OP's link though. My mavic crosstrails are 135x12 as standard. You get adaptors to make them 135x10 or 142x12. The adaptor in the OP's link let the wheel work in a 135x10 without using a standard thin QR skewer.

I've got a sun ringle 12mm to 10mm adaptor. can use screw in or QR skewer.
