I'm looking for some lightweight tyres for aggressive xc/am riding. (Currently using old intense dh tyres which are nice and grippy but very heavy!)

What's the score with these continental things that claim to be 3 ply tyres when they're firmly in the single ply weight bracket? Are they a particularly non-durable triple ply system?

What's going to be better, a conti mountain king or one of the xc versions of maxxis high roller?

Continental saying their tyres are 3 or even 4 (protection) ply is very misleading...yes their tyres are made out of that many plies (layers), but do not confuse that with double-ply DH casings. Confused? So am I!
The weights speak for themselves.

I grew to love my 2.2 MK, but the side wall began to fall apart round the rim after under 500 miles riding (much of which was road/track).

Has put me off for the time being... big shame, nice tyre to ride. Not quite a totally grippy as HR, but fast roller, and predictable in how it slides once they've been ridden in a bit)

Maxxis 2.35 High Rollers Single Ply / Maxxpro are brilliant in my opinion. Fit the bill exactly for what you're after.

Sweet ๐Ÿ™‚ How low do you reckon you can inflate the maxxis single ply without getting a pinch flat then?

I've used them as low as 25psi with no problems on my local trails (mainly rooty woodland singletrack).

Hmm they look heavy though at around 800g. Might go for the 2.1s...
