Anyone got any recommendations for nice routes that go via or close to tatton park, classic car show on this weekend and I feel like being a cheapskate, parking somewhere in cheshire and riding there as it saves the £4.50 park entry fee

don't mind about distance (within reason).

Assuming you are happy riding on the road, then there are plenty of lanes around there that mean you can go through Tatton Park. No idea about off road though - it's all as flat as a pancake!

Hmm. Might trundle down there tomorrow with Mrs North.

yeah it'd be tomorrow for me too, might take the darkside out as like you say it's flatter than a flat thing down there.

If it was on my own, I'd just ride down from Manchester (on the road bike, natch). But if I take Mrs North, that would be too much for her. So, I may drive to Wilmslow and then ride out from there. Something like, past the Cheshire Smokehouse to Mobberley, then on to Ashley and down to the main entrance of the Park. But that's only about 7 miles, so you may want to park further away to get more of a ride in.

Where are you coming from?

I live in Mossley (ashton/oldham area) had thought about riding from home via manchester centre which would make it about 25miles each way, but if it's a scorcher that might not be too pleasant.

I'll probably drive round to wilmslow/alderly edge and go from there across the lanes. similar route to you, like I said not too fussed for distance, good excuse to get out on the bike and see some nice cars

A ride from Mossley would be OK. 25 miles each way isn't much. However, I favour the parking up in Wilmslow option - I've done that before with Mrs North in an attempt to get her out on her bike. If you go down the A34 to the end and turn right towards Wilsmlow you'll come to a roundabout. Turn left (Royles is on your left if you want to look at some bike p*rn). Drive along that road and you'll see residential roads on your right and left. I've parked up in one of those before.

If you rthen jump on the bike and head down the road you have just come from (i.e. the one from Royles), you'll come to a mini roundabout. Turn right. This is the Knutsford road. You can either follow this all the way to Knutsford (it's not too bad, but can be a little busy), or head along for a short time and take a right to Mobberley (it's signposted). The lanes can be a bit confusing round there, so you'll need a map to make sure you can find your way to Ashley and then to the Park. I sort of ride round until I find where i intend to go, and then carry on!

Hope you have a good day!

I'm in Stockport and one of my regular road routes takes in the delights of Goyt Valley, Macc Forest, Alderely Edge, Wilmslow, Knutsford, Tatton Park, Manchester Airport and Stockport. I reckon I could Bikely a nice route for you if you like?
