Anyone know of a cheap source of Shimano mineral oil? Nearly running out of the stuff after bleeding my bleeding XTs.

Holy smokes, it’s not cheap! Anyone know of a source where I might not have to sell my kidney to afford some (or an alternative, if one exists)?

“Boss! The plane, the plane!”

Try Halfords car section, Citroens use mineral brake fluid, it's higher spec and a fraction of the Shimano price.

Looking at the litre bottles? Fifteen quid and last for ages. Not hydroscopic like dot fluid so big bottles are fine. The cheap stuff is a tenner a litre so I cant see the point, may as well just stick with the proper stuff and know it wont knacker seals etc.

The proper stuff is £15-£20 for a litre. Unless you are bleeding them all the time that'll last ages. For the price difference you might as well use the Shimano stuff

I wouldn’t go off piste with fluid. The Citroen stuff might be fine, but the bikehut generic mineral oil kills them.

Thanks all. Didn’t know you could get 1l for 15-20 quid. That’s not too bad and should see me right for years to come.

Use shimano stuff. It's got a higher boiling point than generic mineral oils and is free-er flowing, and best of all it's pink.

Bonni, buy cheap buy twice is my experience, tried the Citroen Lhm stuff and it reduces the performance of the brake lever, it doesn’t spring back. Once I switched to the proper stuff normal service was resumed, all I can think is that the viscosity is different.

Lots of the reported seal issues are because of using non Shimano oil. Not all mineral oils are equal

The Shimano stuff is £15.49/litre from Tredz - out of stock at the moment though.

Or if you're in a rush £19.99 from Amazon.
