i need a second set of wheels (well rear only really) for use on the turbo.

don't need to be good - round and 9 speed shimano compatible is the spec.

anything cheaper than these? or any reason why not...

Don't see why not. For turbp use will be fine, TBH for road use they will be fine except maybe a bit weighty?

I'd probably stump up the extra tenner and go for some R500s from merlin.

If you've got a Decathlon nearby you can't go wrong with one of these

That is cheap. I see no reason why not except they seem slightly unsure if the hubs are actually made by shimano.

I'd be concerned about freehub longevity but for turbo use its not really a problem.

I got a pair of Tiagra on Omega Mach1 recently £60 from planet x but they must have sold out.

That needs a screw on cassette though, and is only one wheel!

I got a pair of Mach 1s on Tiagra off of Dave (BOO HISS ) Hinde's eBay shop when I was out of work and desperately needed new rear wheel. I think I stumped up about £60 with P&P on an auction and they are a nice wheel. TBH if I had more experience of eBay and wasn't so desperate I'd have probably only paid in the forties.

I only heard the horror stories after I'd got my wheels.

I can't see any reason not to go for the Graeme Weigh wheels. Just keep an eye on the bearings which should be fine. Just give em a check after the first few hundred miles for slack developing. As long as you catch it and adjust the bearings they should last and last.

Wrong one> http://www.decathlon.co.uk/rear-700-wheel-freewheel-id_8005015.html

The OP said he only wanted a rear...

If it's only for use on the turbo it's not going to get a hard life.
