Hi,
Has anyone got ever used one of the much cheaper chinese narrow wides on ebay ?
Are they rubbish ? Cant see much that can go wrong with a chainring as long as it spins true ,
J
What material are they made from? If it's a soft alloy, it'll wear the entire drivetrain quickly. They'll likely claim to be 7075 Alu, even if they're not. If the tooth width isn't spot on, it'll drop the chain more or you'll get chainsuck.
Pretty easy to get right though, I'd be tempted to take a punt for a significant £££ saving.
I've got a clarks one that was pretty cheap on eBay. Seems fine to be honest, never drops chain, goes round, wearing well.
If you search online or FB you'll find a discount code for Superstar which will make them around £25-ish via their website.
Has a few when playing with different size rings. The one I settled on didn’t lastvthat long over winter before it got mega noisy & graunchy. Replaced with a Sram Eagle ring & back to smooth quiet loveliness.
Are the Works Components ones any good? They're £20
I had a works oval for a while, seemed pretty good, i just didn't like the oval bit of it.
Running a superstar raptor which is nicely made
I bought a Dekas one on Ebay recently, it seems fine up to now, although only being used on the turbo for 99% of it's life.
Billys bikes has a good selection including symetrical 96 bcd, steel ones also which may be appealing
Below are the 4 arm options
Ive got a Neutrino jobby on my CX. Looks ace and feels fine after nearly 1000miles.:
I had a Snail one, bent very easily from a rock strike. Wouldn't bother getting one again. I would wait for one of the frequent Superstar sales and get one from them for a few quid extra.
I've used an oval from that seller on Alixpress. It's worked ok, but mostly lives on the turbo bike. I'm going to get another one 36t this time as I've run out of gears on the turbo.

I ran one, no issues at all. I'll be getting another when my current one needs replacing.
