Just changed the rear disc brake pads on my Hayes Stroker Rides, the old ones were nearly metal on metal. Anyway pushed the pistons back (quite easily) replaced the pads. It was tightish getting the wheel back in and now I can feel resistance, and the wheel will not rotate smoothly on its own. Am prepared to ride on it to bed it in, but don't want to damage the pads (Organic). What can I do.

Cheers

Marcel

Few hard stops - they'll soon bed in

Superstar pads? I find superstars are sometimes "too thick" at first and you practically have to cycle for hours to stop them dragging. Pistons go back fully, no issues there.

take some oil out the reservoirs and push the pistons further in

Perhaps someone topped them up as the pads wore down?

only a guess mind.

rub the pads on a brick for a bit to take the edge off if the pistons are flush with the caliper insides, (ie, wouldn't make any difference if they went in further)

Cheers guys, no pistons go back fully, may let some oil out then, if not it will be good resistance training if nothing else.

Marcel

PS yes they are Superstars, the fronts were spot on.

Superstars = leave oil alone and scrpe some braking material off the pads. They'll be too thick. You could swap the pads around with the set that fits?

Just nipped out and shaved a little off the pads, much better, can still hear a little resistance, but think that will wear in quite quick.

So thanks again for all your replies and advice.
