[Closed] Chances of buying a Shimano groupset in the UK any time soon

What do we think the chances of buying a 12 speed Shimano groupset in the UK are in the near future?

Trying to work out if it’s worth hanging on for a groupset, or use my worn out 10 speed stuff for a new build. Wouldn’t mind if it’s a bit mix and match Deore/SLX/XT.

Also, anyone know if it’s ok to use a standard 10 speed narrow wide chanring with a 12 speed cassette and chain etc?

Seem to be out of stock and have been for some time. If you hunt around you maybe to buy individual components - that’s what I’ve done on several bikes - for 11 and 12 speed.

A mate just tried to piece together an XT groupset from separate components but had to go XTR on the mech as XT wasn’t available anywhere he could find though. More likely to find XTR then the cheaper end of the scale.

I don’t think the Shimano 12 speed chain plays well with many chainrings - other than shimano 12 speed or ones that specifically have a teeth profile to work with it. You could go sram 12 speed chain and that opens up more options. On my 12 speed xt I’m running an XX1 chain - I didn’t like the Shimano one I had, it was noisy and scrapey as soon as it got vaguely muddy. The Sram one is quieter and handles mud / grit better.

I've bought a few things from Germany in the last few weeks and they've came in roughly a week. Not paid any import duty yet either, touch wood.

Just comparing prices on bike24 (who no longer want to deliver to the UK) to CRC and Merlin. Brexit really is amazingly crap.

Guess I'm going to need to take a bit more care of my drivetrain.

@joebristol Thanks for the tip about SRAM chains, that’s a possibility.

I would be concerned about using a 10 speed chainring with a 12 speed chain, if that's what you are proposing. Not an expert though.

We were told this was "provisional" based on the 10,000 custom officers doing the work of the promised (a lie!) 50,000 staff.

A bike shop local to me has apparently been told by their supplier not expect much before October!
