Using udderly smooth just now. Seems to work well.  Not sure I’ve noticed massive difference in the ones I’ve used over the years.

Singletrack one is out of stock, but given I'm outside the UK, postage cost makes it a non starter

This. Have used Assos, MucOff, a couple of different types from PlanetX, they've all been fine. Next time I'm just going to buy DOublebase cream from the chemists, if it's good enough for the Olympic track team it's good enough for me

I've always used Assos, have tried others but always end up going back to Assos.

Used Assos for ages, then something from Planet X.

https://www.wiggle.com/p/beelite-chamois-cream-250g for the last couple of years after a recommendation on here.  Thicker, lasts longer, seem to need to use less.  And cheaper than both (at rrp and discounted prices) for good measure.

Muc off one currently and it’s as good as my favourite Assos in all but the warmest weather, where I think the Assos is a bit better. Much cheaper as well as the tub is massive and somewhere always has a deal on Muc Off.

Purple and yellow tube whatever it’s called. Happy enough with it.

Can I go one stage further and ask… does anyone “maintain” that area so there’s less chance of chafe?

I especially find on my roadie even with chamois cream on I get sore in the direct contact area, which may also be a combination of not a lot of riding on the saddle for a while and not the right saddle/fitment

Muc off for me works better than assos.

Tried Morgan blue, only good for short spins.

Squirt is ok, bit thick to spread around.

If I'm going to be out for days then I might use Sudocrem to help keep saddle sores at bay, but generally I don't bother any more.

I've been using this...

Works fine - for me.

If you get on with MucOff, you'll like this too IMO

If you mean shaving/deforestation, I had read this is counterproductive as the undergrowth acts as a barrier anyway and helps reduce chafing.

Assos or Chamois Butt'r 'European style' for the nice menthol tingle. Don't know if it makes any significant difference.

Trying to wean myself off it though, am up to 90 minute rides with no cream, need to try 2hrs.

Also, am impressed with Assos skin repair cream, it's expensive so I use it very sparingly, but it genuinely seems to work. Worthwhile for multi-day trips if you're susceptible.

I only use the stuff on really long road rides and find Bum Butter - as sold in the ST shop - really good, it's more viscous than most of the stuff out there and for me, works a lot better. Most of the other, wetter creams I've tried actually seemed to cause irritation. A lot of them contain all sorts of chemicals. For example, here's the ingredients list for Muc Off Luxury Chamois Creamn:

Aqua (Water), Petrolatum, Cetearyl Alcohol, Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil), Ozokerite, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Propylene Glycol, Triethyl Citrate, Glyceryl Stearate, Polysorbate 60, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Lanolin Alcohol, Parfum (Fragrance), Phenoxyethanol, Sodium PCA, Polyacrylamide, Ethylhexylglycerin, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Menthol, BHT, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Laureth-7, Benzyl Salicylate, Amyl Cinnamal, Panthenol, Coumarin, Hexyl Cinnamal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Geraniol, Hamamelis Virginiana Bark/Leaf/Twig Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Limonene, Linalool, Eugenol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Alcohol, Maltodextrin, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate.

I mean seriously? I suspect I'm sensitive to something commonly used in the stuff, but do you really want to rub that chemical cocktail into your skin?

No, a bit of nice soft foliage is far better than stubble.

Bikemonger's butter +1

My only criticism would be that inspite of the marketing, it does still need a mid-audax top up on a hot day, somewhere around the hundred mile mark (and 6+ litres of water sweated out). Thankfully you can buy it in big tubs and 'knobs', buy them both and just keep the small pot topped up.

Trying to wean myself off it though, am up to 90 minute rides with no cream, need to try 2hrs.

Depends to an extent.

Mountainbiking <2 hours I'm happy in whatever stretchy/skintight boxxers are called, longer I'm happy just in normal pads7ded shorts.
Road/gravel <2hours, happy in just padded shorts. But frequently forget and end up doing 5+ hours with no cream.

But it's roulette, fine for weeks/months then BOOM saddle sore. I think some of the risk is actually down to not getting changed afterwards so it's the antiseptic ingredients doing their job. So I (intend to) use bum butter on 2hour rides that end at the pub, but not on ones that end at home. +
