Hello all knowing stw.

I have a genesis volant which came with a sora 3550 chain set. I've finally worn out the drive and I'm looking for replacement bits n pieces. I've had a look around online and i can't find the matching part number anywhere. Is it the case that i can fit something similar or will only a 3550 chainring fit?

Help me stw, you're my only hope.

Edit got the model number wrong.

Chainrings will be 110mm PCD - any aftermarket chainring with 110mm PCD will fit. Stronglight chainrings from the likes of Spa Cycles are perfectly adequate replacements but often you can find a whole chainset is cheaper than the price of two chainrings.

Ok thanks. Buying a new chain set seems a waste.

You'll find complete Sora double chainsets for 40 quid online which is probably cheaper than 2 new rings.

I find the whole chainring situation very unsatisfying.

I have a couple of bikes with the stronglight rings and a box full of old chainset from others I chosen to replace the whole thing.

Stronglight rings whilst well priced and functional dont look very good and supply is hit and miss. You can get fancy rings with magical powers for big bucks but thats not for me.

There is definitely a market for a UK manufacturer to provide a range of rings in popular sizes.

Not with road chainsets usually as there's the option of BS or IT threaded.

Sense-check to OP - you say you've "worn out the drive" - you realise the chainrings are the last part to wear?

I've seen lots of people replace them when they don't need to, because other parts are worn.

I'll try and upload a photo tonight and let you be the judges. The big ring is what I use mostly, short commute on the flat.
