recently been out on my new ibis and found that the chain when in the small ring comes over drag/scuff plate ...
any advice and comments would be appreicated cheers
There's a fair few threads over on mtbr about this. I've not had any problems yet, but as precautionary measures I have:
- bought and fitted a Frameskin kit
-bought a couple of rolls of self amagamating tape and wrapped most of the rear triangle in that, building it up so that hopefully the gap between granny and chainstay is too small for the chain to get into, and if it does, there's enough tape to protect the stay
- bought a Blackspire Stinger for double rings that I'll fit at some stage, and lose the big ring.
I suffered from this more than i had hoped. I was using Middelburn chainrings, slickshift hardcote, but found they did not last as long i was expecting. KMC chain.
Same chain, changed to new Blackspire chainrings which are slightly thicker and all is well.
Also glued on a thick rubber patch to the scuff plate. The gap between the chainrings and the frame is just the "right" size to allow the chain to ride up when the chainrings become slightly worn.
If you haven't already, check your rings, you only need a tiny amount of wear that you can feel with your fingernail to start getting the dreaded chainsuck!!
Mojo - brilliant.
