[#1989379]

Got a problem with my CK rear hub - the freewheeling is a bit sticky, meaning that the chain flops around when I'm not pedalling. It's definitely not the rear mech, before anyone asks.

Presumably a service is in order, in which case does anyone have recommendations for the Herts/Bucks area?

Look on the King website, they have vids to show you how simple they are to service. It takes about 10 minutes. Whip the axle out, pull the freehub out, clean, lube, re-assemble. Peasy.

Get some Ringdrive lube and get stuck in.

It needs a service! You'll need the tool to strip the freehub completely to get the roller bearings completely clean and the other bearing at the back. Best to take it into a king dealer if you've not got the tool. I'd do it for you but you're nowhere near me!

Thanks Jedi - the closest CK dealer is Central London for me, and I'd rather avoid that.

Not a difficult job if you've got the tool kit, and the kit would only take a few services to pay for itself.

You can give a basic service/clean without the need for the tool-kit.

You will need ringdrive lube though and adjuster tool

You need the full kit to do the hub shell service that's required in this case.

A minor service and clean of the Ringdrive will reduce stiction and stop the chain slacking, this can be performed without the tool-kit.

Complete service (with tool-kit) should be performed every 12-18months

Well, this hub's been through all sorts of grime and hasn't had a service in at least three years. I have absolutely no desire to buy a special toolkit for the one and only King hub I have, so it's off to a specialist for me.

Nick - conincidentally I'm also herts / Bucks - where are you bbased?

I bought somne s/h King hubs off here last year (which are excellent) and got them serviced by a chappie in Sheffield who posts on here under the name Eichler. Haven't seen him for a while on here though. Service was superb and hubs have been brilliant. I can try emailing him if you like and see if he's still doing it, if that helps?

Orange, I'm in Watford - would appreciate it if you could contact Eichler.
