[Closed] Chain length - is this too short?

Hi,

I've been running 1x10 on my alpine 160 for a little while now but have always thought the chain was maybe a little too long, if I was in the highest gear and there was no pressure on the crank the upper chain would be drooping down.

So last weekend I removed a link and now I'm thinking maybe it's a little too short?! With no air in the shock and the shock compressed the mech gets a little closer to the cassette through chain growth but not much. Here's a pic of the mech in first gear and the shock uncompressed.

I rode it last weekend at Cwmcarn and it seemed ok, I think the mech touched the cassette once or twice but I adjusted the b screw on the mech to move it away from the cassette and that seemed to stop them from touching. So my question is do you think this looks a bit too short?

If you done the no air in shock test and the changes are ok then I would ride it.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I've let the air out of the shock and it shifts fine so I'll leave it as it is. Cheers.

If that pic is with the air out of the can and at full travel, I'd be happy with that. How many times are you going to get full travel in that gear anyway?

That pic is with the shock full of air and uncompressed. With the shock empty of air and compressed the cage moves round a little bit more but like you say I wouldn't ever use anywhere near to full travel in that gear anyway.
