Is it worth paying the 300% to 400% extra for ceramic version of BB's over the SS version?

Not IMO, no. I suppose that if ultimate performance is required or if money is no object then ceramic bearings are certainly very nice and smooth. But I'd rather pay less and replace more frequently. Let's face it, a well looked after 'normal' bearing will last ages anyway.
