Just read they are spending £660k on the trails and a new pump track. I've never been even though it's on 15 minutes from my house. Does anyone ride there?

At the moment it's Ok, the new trails look better than what is there already and they should open in the next couple of weeks. A lot of folk seem to complain about dog walkers and neds  but I have never had any incinents. For being 15 minutes away it's a worthwhile trip

Have a look  at a trail map before you go as the signage tends to get pulled down

Cheers Stevie. Apparently the original trails are still open just now so will take a run over

shame they couldn't spend some cash making the original trail better.

It’s a racecourse and was designed as such. Gets used a lot for sxc and similar events, for which it is well suited. New stuff includes a large and impressive pump track and new red and blue trails linking in to the existing course. All the new stuff is closed and will open on 22nd April.  I live close to it and use the place often for a quick mud free bit of exercise. If you ride it fast it’s a very good workout and pretty challenging. Podium riders can lap it in around 14 mins, for the rest of us sub 20 is decent. I did 3 laps yesterday morning, it’s running well at the moment as when it gets too dry it’s a bit loose in parts.

We also use it as a coaching venue, which it’s ideal for, however there are no facilities, loos, etc.

Its not a place to go on your own of an evening as the top car park gets pretty busy with nocturnal activity....

Worth a visit if you're nearby. Been a while since I last rode there, bit of a 2x ? Track around the back.

there are a couple of good bits but the right hand circle is a waste of time plus most of it is on "walker path" type surface.  if you go to the end of double dare and climb back up and do the forest section is makes for a ok run for fitness.

The pump track and jump line look good and I hope the new trails are actually worthy of their blue and red designation.

I'd rather do housework than return to Cathkin Braes. The trails were dull, broken glass, litter and dogshit/dog walkers everywhere. If they are indeed spending another £660k on the place then that is criminal.

^^^ maybe you should go back....there is a team of litter pickers up there a few times a week now. Very little dog fouling and yesterday the council were out in force cutting the grass. It is also being used for the European Champs this summer, and a round of the SXC next month. Horses for courses I guess ... 😀

I live about 20 mins away and ride there relatively often . Serves a purpose , especially in the winter as it's pretty all weather . It's not the tweed valley and I wouldn't recommended traveling from far to ride there but it's got some fun bits and is worth a visit if your close and your after a quick blast .

I don't think it's particularly full of litter or dog shit or neds , although I wouldn't ride there at night.

Had a few interesting experiences as Cathkin over the years:

Thats a nice bike bet it cost a bit..

Dog shit/walkers

People posing for photos on the trail

During the British Champs a few years ago the neds spectating were offering cans of Tennents and buckie to the racers at the back end of the course. 🙂

Trails are nothing special unless you are in the area.

The new stuff looks amazing but it's down the hill near some real bandit country. I hope I'm wrong but either people will start getting bikes nicked or it will be shut when a ned nearly kills himself on a BSO over the jumps.

It's always ok first thing in the morning but the later you are the dog walkers / neds appear. The dog walkers are generally ok but there are some real nutters amongst them...

All said it's good enough and the new stuff looks great fun

Was up here today. It's no Glentress but good fun for a newbie like me. 14 minutes from my house is also a bonus

took a wee wander up today out of curiosity, the new trails are quite good actually, if you avoid the big long up to the car park, you can just make a course minus that bit but up through the tree's which make it more interesting, for something so close to the city, in a small area, it's never going to be a fully fledged trail centre but new stuff is good. worth a blast, particularly if local.

Blasted around the whole thing a few times on a shady 90s converted ebike, which I've a loan of for a few days, that was interesting! no suspension to speak and shady brakes 😆 but verdict on that is awesome, not done any trails for a good long while now, horsing about like a climbing hero and actually loving uphills is immese. never been round trails like that in my puff! I'm defo converting my bike at some point!

I didn't think it was the done thing to take an ebike on the pump track so didn't bother. only issue with the ebike is sheepishly apologising as you pass people! 😆

It's not really that bad, castlemilk like lots of glasgow, worst stuff has been torn down and rebuilt over the last 20 years.

was loads of people hanging about there on the new stuff, then pushing back up today, gloriously sunny. 🙂

I have a wee FS e-bike demo night soon Joe, right looking forward to hammering way more descents than we usually do!...

I thnk the Braes trails are spot on for their intended purpose and the council and bulders should be commended.

I stay about 20 mins from the Braes and I go up occasionally when I just want a quick blast or to shakedown a  bike.  I was up the other week to see the new bits and it was great to see  lots of kids having a blast on the new pump track.

There's always miserablists who are negative about everything...

Its a great facility, we should be grateful to have it. A purpose built weather proof trail on the edge of the city.

No its not Glentress but its nice they have expanded it a bit.

The "ned" issue has been seriously overstated - I've never had the slightest issue and I'm not exactly intimidating.

Walkers can be a bit of a PITA but you just need to be aware they might be there and ride accordingly.

For a quick blast after work of a summer evening its ideal.

It's in the evening rides rotation now i'm back in Glasgow. Lots of fun gaps/alternative lines to be had on the XC course and the new jump line is good when it's not windy. As per usual if it's not fun ride it faster etc... bikes are gid... stop moaning.

Aye I agree shout out to the builders, the way they basically built all the downhills starting from the one point is great, got a mini bike park feeling to it now particularly with that pump track at the bottom. Must say aswell I enjoy the rest of the track too, couple of features added and been worked on too about there as well I think.

Just the big long up to the car park and up to the wind turbine(turbine bit is cool) they should look at, guess those bits are really just access to the good bits though. So no too fussed there.

All in all aye I reckon they should be proud of their efforts turning into a nice wee trail. Its great for something i can dodstraight from my front door. I'll definitely be using it more I think, most likely ebiked oot my nut mind you! 😆

Greg you'll love, I'm a total convert, they are something else! Day 4 today out for a blast on it! 🙂

Article in this month's MBR about the new trails.

£1.2 million for 3km of new trail albeit most of that money was spent on the car park, access road, landscaping and signage.

I'm in the wrong line of work!
