[#10457202]

Off to Spain in April to stay at my sister's gaff. Going to take the bike and get in a few days.

Probably hook up with the guys at Sierra MTB for a couple of days guided riding (any recommendations on trails?).

Need to hire a car and have ingrained distrust of rental companies. I think they're mostly expensive con jobs. I've been told to avoid goldcar. Anyone got any first-hand recommendations?

I've used a few over the years. I think it was RecordGo last time. I've never had an issue with any of them. Just take out your own excess insurance before you go.

Have a look on the rental cars app.
You’ll get the car through Avis or whoever but you’ll save yourself a fortune.

Go with one of the big players and book direct. Thats always my choice in the hope that if anything goes wrong you get a better outcome. Its only a few quid anyway.

I've used a few. Liked Espacar the best. One visit I hired a car for 3 days, had them collect it, then drop one off towards the end of the holiday for a other 3 days. Saved me a weeks hire in the middle. Helped that they had a hub near where we stayed.

We used Sixt in Malaga airport. No issues! Had a nice caddy maxi for a week. No queues like with the slightly cheaper ones either.

Used Malagacar last February. Had a reasonably well used Renault Kangoo for a week. Perfect for the two oy us plus a couple of bikes. Price and service were both really good.

aaaaaaand we're back. Any other tips?  Anything to note with regard to times?  We will be landing around midnight, are the car hire places still open?

Malagacar, always used them. Very cheap hire prices but their insurance is high.
Buy your insurance online (independent car hire insurance) before you go, it’s a tiny fraction of the price

Lots of bad review of Goldcar, Rhomdium etc. Con jobs.

We used Budget at the airport. The car was ok and you're at the back of the joint desk with Avis. If an Avis customer turns up and takes a ticket, you're at the back of the queue. Very frustrating and wouldn't use them again.

Another vote for Malagacar -
Close to airport for pick up - reasonable on state of car at return point - even after using the doblo for a number of uplifts on disty tracks

cheap too!

Avoid Goldcar like the plague! MalagaCar are good but buy your own excess insurance. Renault Kangoo is the perfect car for a bike and luggage.
We have a large selection of routes so no problem matching your requirements.

Used Gold car in Venice Last year had to give them 1400euro deposit against Damage ,be very careful have a close look over the car as we had a well used Fiat 500 & it had lots of marks damage they had omitted from there check sheet could've lost our deposit very easily also if u book it before you go pay the extra to cover yourself but Goldcar still tried to get us to pay an xs waiver as well
