I presume you needed new wheels to run 11 speed though?
Nope, the 11sp cassette fits on to the normal Shimano 10sp freewheel
Ok. Thanks. Maybe I will wait a bit then go 1x11 with a new cassette, mech, and shifter. Wonder what the current XT 10sp front and rear mech, shifters, and cassette are worth used.
Is there a time limit on sending the lefty back for the recall? Seems to me if I send it now it's going to be in a queue and it will take ages?
I doubt if there is a limit. It should be done automatically when you get it services. I don't actually thinks its a recall, just it will be changed the next time they see it.
Cheers, whats the actual process? If I bob to Evans they send it off and ring me when they get it back?
Well I figured out what's up with my outer front ring. It's struck a rock at some point. Bent a tooth! Gah.
Ok. So I definitely need a new chain ring immediately given my bashed outer. Looking at a direct mount Raceface 32t or maybe an oval. Might as well switch the rear cassette too. Thinking of staying 10 speed to save cash. Thoughts onusing a sunrace 11-42 10sp cassette? Will it work with the XT rear mech fitted to the Carbon 2? What about the Praxis 11-42? Would I be better on 11-40?
I assume the direct mount the raceface can go on in place of the spider on the sram crankset? Do I need a different spacer? How do I get the cranks off? Do I need a crank puller? I have one I used with isis cranks aeons ago, but I presume that won't work.
Cheers.
I run a sunrace mx3 on my trigger and ms3 on my hard tail. Both ten speed. 11 - 42. Both with 32 tooth oval 104 bcd superstar narrow wide chain rings.
I didn't need a crank puller for my deore cranks. My chain line is fine but I think you can get spacers if needed.
I'm running slx shifter on one and saint on the other.
I love it.
I'm amazed that people don't find the jekyll hardcore enough.
The Jekyll geometry isnt good enough as standard, sort that so you can start to utilise it and then the bloody thing cracks.
I haven't ridden a jekyll so can't comment, but i love my trigger. It's the only bike i have liked straight out of the box. Does everything from marathons to uplift days.....
Maybe not the best in it's class, but generally good at everything in my experience.
Thanks Crazy.
There is obviously no excuse for cracks on a frame.
I don't think things are so black and white though. I think Geometry of a bike is on a scale between uphill and down hill capability. I think cannondale tried to do both. Doesn't make them bad bikes but does mean it's not a downhill specialist like the gt stanchion.
Some people it may suit others it won't. I suppose this is why we should be test riding. ?maybe next time.
I thought Jerome Clementz won all sorts of Enduro races on the Jekyll?
Ordered an MX3 and a direct mount Absolute Black 32t Oval. Also posted off my seat post. Does a wide narrow chain ring need a retention device?
I don't use any extra chain retension. I've only dropped my chain when I've forgotten to put my clutch back on. This has happened enough for me to be considering one.
Yeah clementz does OK on the Jekyll. Won the championship in 2013 and usually a top ten finisher. He doesn't run the lefty. Which is a shame.
but generally good at everything in my experience
Especially breaking 😆
Second guessing myself - would I be better with a 30t oval, or is the 32t fine. Looks like a compromise either way, and whilst I don't go to my 24/36 gearing that often, there are a few climbs where I get there. On the other hand, going to 30t seems like it loses about two gears at the top end, and I suppose again, I don't get there often, but I do get there.
Cheers Andy and Crazy - I will run without a retention doodah for now, see how I go.
Gah. Ordered the BB30 instead of the GXP ring!
You won't need a chain device.
I'm running a 30T NW with a Sunrace 40 - dropped chain twice ever and that was an Innerleithen DH.
Anyone still using the Cannondale stem?...ditched the 80mm and now running a Straightline 50mm which makes it a bit more responsive.
I'm still using the Cannondale stem but on the Carbon it's only 60mm and I'd not want any shorter. Thanks for feedback on the 1x10.
I'm yet to drop a chain on a narrow wide chain ring.
50mm Thomson stem and offset bushings, made it much better on the technical stuff for me.
Currently looking at WTB i-35 rims, anyone running those?
I dropped the chain at Stainburn on mine, so I've got the OneUp components direct mount guide and so far it's been flawless.
My Trigger 3 has a Fox Float 32 on it. Anyone know what size rotor I can put on? I found something that said 140mm-203mm but just wanted to check.
Any recommendations on what to replace current rotors with?
Ashy, how's that Works Oval performing? Would you buy it again? I'm thinking, since I ordered the wrong AB ring and need to return, that I might go for that cheaper 32T Oval direct mount from Works instead of AB.
It's perfect mate. The only time it lost the chain was on the Stainburn ride and to be fair I was absolutely hammering it and the trail there is very very rough and rocky, so it's not that surprising. Never had any issues otherwise. I didn't know we could go direct mount though which is interesting.
So yes, to answer your question I would buy it again without question!
Just thought I'd post up yesterdays jaunt on't'Trigger, just because.... well.. why not? 🙂

Stil lovin' it! What I can't get my head round is it seems to climb better than ny hardtail. How does that work then?
Yup, the spider comes off with the removal of 3 torx screws. My mistake was to order a BB30 SRAM direct mount chain ring - but it turns out we have a long spindle BB30 SRAM which needs the SRAM GXP direct mount rings which have a 6mm offset, the regular BB30 has zero offset.
I'll order one of these then:
I think it will result in a more accurate chain line than using the spider, though I am not certain. And they are not much different in price than the spider version.
Did you have to adjust your chain when going 42 at the rear and 32 oval (technically 34) at the front? With a regular 32 it would be a straight fit. I think because it's oval its probably going to be closer to a 32 than a 34 so I am assuming there's no need for a new chain. Spent too much already.
I went 1x11 so had a new chain anyway. Best way to check if existing chain is long enough is to drop the air out of the shock and cycle the shock through with the cranks and chainring at their "biggest" dimension. I reckon it'll probably be fine.
I was tempted to go 1x11, but decided to leave that upgrade until next year. Hopefully I can survive with only 10 gears. 😀
Fitted the mx3 today. That black / red combo is quite fetching on the black/red Trigger. 🙂
Sweet. Have to say I'm missing mine while it's away getting the lefty "upgraded". Somewhat worryingly though my 29er hardtail was significantly quicker round Dalby forest than the Trigger. Like 8 seconds average per segment.....not sure how that works-perhaps I've become super fit whilst the trigger is away.
That's amazing Ash! I suppose those 29r wheels really work. I never thought there could be much difference. Saying that my 26r hard tail is a lot slower. My trigger had got faster as I've reduced the shock pressure.
Yes, I couldn't quite believe it myself. I was on a mission and Dalby is quite pedally and smooth, which would have played in the 29ers favour I guess. I'll do the same route when I get the trigger back and compare!
Chris
Just need a seat post now!

Those flat pedals look flipping massive! What are they?!
Hi Ashy, they are Superstar Nano-x. Might just be the angle of the photo, though they are pretty big. I like them.
Took the air out of my shock and discovered that yes, the chain is too short. in the 42T with the shock bottomed out, the jockey wheels are hitting the chain rings and the chain is pretty close to straight. Last thing I wanted to do was buy a new chain too. I just need 2 or 3 links. 🙁
