Ticks all my boxes

29er
SS
cheep

With the added bonus of being able to buy cheep tapered forks?

But if the wheels are crap
The brakes are crap
I've already got nice cranks and finishing kit

Is it worth anything over a £440 Swift Frame and fork when they arrive?

Almost certain the swift will ride nicer.

general assumption<
It'll be great for a few months then you'll regret not buying the Swift, want to upgrade and then blow the budget on parts to make it better. Repeat until you swap all the bits on to your new Swift frame
>general assumption

Nope, looking arround I've seen a lot of lower budget 29ers too, which prompted me into thinking they might be a good bet at the end of the year when no ones bought them (assumption that beginners are the buyers of <£700 bikes and beginners buy 'normal' stuff, not niche).

Theres a Flash 3 29er in the LBS, that took a lot of willpower not to buy it!
