Serious question, got to get a bike back from a friends house in South West London. I'm not talking about peak time, commuter full trains here, but either Friday evening or Saturday morning, on a fairly un-busy route... I'm not a Londoner do don't know this kind of thing, just have to catch the train down tonight to go and get my bike back...

And before anyone says "ride it", I'll be in jeans and trainers when the bike has got clipless pedals on, it's a 6 mile route across London I don't know, and most importantly I will have 2 heavy bags with me as well! And the return journey on the tube is only about £5...

Yes, as long as the entry and exit stations are at ground level so don't need you to go up escalators........

OK cheers

Not sure about that then, though I think there's stairs at either/both tube stations that I could use.

East Putney to Paddington

From memory, there is usually one person still at East Putney at non peak times, but Paddington certainly is manned...

There doesn't seem to be much logic to that map...?

Some "permitted" sections are clearly on the underground bits of the underground, whilst some of the outlying lines that are "restricted" must surely be above ground???

Cheers for the map piedi

Looks like I am in luck indeed! Just as well really, cos otherwise I'd not make it back to Paddington in time for the last train home tonight either...

The reason for that is that some lines are sub-surface whereas others are deep tunnel. District Line is only 8m or so below street level at worst, and it also depends upon the number and size of escalators as bikes are problematic.
DLR doesn't allow bikes on at any time, and the western end of the Picc Line is below ground from Hounslow West and only comes out of tunnels north of Southgate. The Northern Line is mostly below ground and part of the Central Line out on the Hainault loop is also below ground.

Circle and District is fine outside peak hours, done that many times.

East Putney to Paddington is therefore fine, manned or not you won't need to be sneaky!!? 😉
