Is this the best way to strip an ali frame, is it safe to use on ali and do a good enough job around the welds? Full suss frame if it makes any difference!
If not ok to use what are the other options?
Thanks

It's certainly safe, but new Nitromors is ****- I've tried it on 2 frames, it didn't touch the finish on one, and barely softened it on the other. (old Nitromors made the paint jump off my motorbike)

i've stripped 2 frames with nitromors, its not as good as it used to be, takes ages. never ever had a problem other than mind numbing boredom waiting for it to strip the paint off!

Nitromors these days be lucky to damage the paint let alone the alu.

They took out the vol compounds that made it work a few years ago.

Heat gun will do it although media blasting would be 20 quid well spent.

I use it on aluminium bits of kit at work and they are fine. It would work around welds but it is going to be a massive pain to do it properly as it is a messy and time consuming job. If you are paying someone to repaint the frame then see if they have facilities to strip it too.

This, apparently there is some H+S safety policy at work which means I can't just add them back in (despite us using them in the lab).

Chemical stripping will be £20 very well spent. 😐

if you are near Newcastle. Used them for a steel frame but know plenty of people who have done aluminium ones.

^^ That stuff is much better than Nitromors but unless you enjoy rubbing things a lot, i'd leave it in somewhere to get it dipped/blasted.

Sand/grit blasting before repainting would be perfect as it pretty much roughens up the surface when it removes the paint.
