I need a new rear derailleur and wondered if I could use a shimano 11 speed one with my 10 speed shifter and cassette.
It would be a 1x10 setup, which once the cassette and chain where worn out might be replaced with 11 speed version.

Yes - I ran an M8000 Mech with an 11-40 SLX/T-Rex and XT 10 speed shifter. Worked better than the Zee mech I was using.

Can you therefore use 10speed mechs with 11 speed shifters/cassettes?
