After 4 months without a bike I am about to take delivery of all the bits for an on one 29er, but is it niche if it has gears?

Also can I keep my Marin beard, even though I no longer own a Marin (in my defence it was stolen rather than sold)?

sorry, 29ers aren't niche anymore.

they just aren't.

nor are single-speeds.

or fixies.

Agree I have one and I'm so main stream. I had a lefty too and assume that isn't niche either.

you will need some pretty weird shape bars or something else special.

To be honest only prope clown machines can claim "Niche" status now even this sort of effort doesn't count:

The wheels are round see...

Niche is inversely proportionate to Function, gears make your new 29er more able to climb increasing function and decreasing the niche factor.

fixed is old school these days; you need to be riding chainless, Square wheeled Dandy horse with a frame woven from ginger virgin's pubes to even be in contention...
