Hi I’ve got some M1900 wheels, I’m thinking about buying another set of wheels to run XC tyres on as I live in the MTB Mecca that is East Anglia.
I was going to buy the XR 1700 and put the internals inside the M 1900 for more engagement on rocky climbs.
Alternatively they appear to sell upgrade kits.
Is this possible or not?
It's possible with the right tools. Check out YouTube.
Not really but apart from POE why bother?
They are perfectly good .. I'd buy 350's out of preference but nothing bad about 370's really.
Whilst it will 'work' the interface between the hub shell and freehub on the pawl and ratchet hubs is different.
You will therefore effectively have a gap that means there is no sealing and the freehub mechanism is open to the elements.
It may work for a while, but its not a reliable or long term solution, it will also comprehensively nuke your warranty, if you have one.
As per hatter ...
and the 370's are really not bad anyway... my 6yr old ones needed a new pawl spring but otherwise trouble free
I'd really need to think before sticking the ratchet in and letting in mud and water.
Thanks guys. So you can upgrade 350 to 240 internals but not really the 370 as it uses pawls.
I don’t mind the wheels they came on the bike but I have need better engagement on tech climbs a few times. Partly rider error.
The rims are very good absolute doddle to set up tubeless.
Yeah you end up with no sealing as above. So it’d be a no from me.
I just built a mates bike with dt350 hubs and XM481 rims. The hubs appear to have the 18t star ratchet which is quite slow vs my Hope hubs and it’s really really quiet. I don’t like them - my 370’s on the e1900’s made a better noise than the star ratchet. I can’t say I noticed any improvement on tech climbs from a quicker engaging hub going from 370 to Pro4.

You can feel the difference but I'd say it's 90% in your head as to the climbs... I'm not knocking that... I'm just saying if you worry about it then it deffo will affect you.
It 100% doesn't sound as cool .... 😉
Best bike analogy is like if you use clips and switch to flats...
Having my foot mm of difference screwed me up for ages... it just felt wrong. Then I convinced myself it didn't matter... after sending a few features I totally convinced myself ...
It might not be ideal but its certainly better than messing about as you approach a feature....especially if its something you stopped to check out...
Engagement is a bit like that (IMHO)... the more you worry about it the more it affects you.... so even when it "could be better" a bit of timing will sort you out.
The noise on the 350s will get louder. I have the upgraded ratchet on 240s and they’ve got louder over time, very buzzy now.
got louder over time
Time for a service (regrease).
It is possible to fettle the seal to make it work. Probably not winter slop and hose pipe safe though.

It's what you'd expect with the 18t, 20 degrees between engagement, quite a lot, 36t is best for strength/engagement, i have 36t on one and 54t on the other, and they feel the same, but both are a lot better than the standard 18t!
