Suntour XCM's are very basic forks , great for canal towpaths and knocking up and down the streets but show them a proper off road route and they'll suffer unless they're brand new. Once they've been bedded in their best days have gone.
For reasonable starter forks you should be looking at something like Rockshox Tora's.
Do MBUK have a forum? Try there....
My mum has them on her bike.
They're OK s best, better than the first sus forks I bought in the 90's, but still pretty poor.
Either save up and buy some RS Tora's or buy some on-one rigid forks.
