I used Lanefoot Farm, Thorthwaite (CA12 5RZ), last year in 'Summer'.
It was a bit rubbish, showering/washing facilities were a bit too basic (read - rustic, i.e. 1 shower for blokes) considering the size & numbers they can accomodate there - even though the place was only half full due to the v. poor weather.

Err there is a campsite at the bottom of the whinlatter pass. Braithwaite its called. Couldnt get a cleaner toilet/shower block if you did it yourself.

The Scotgate campsite in Braithwaite is good, not big so sometimes gets full, but the best showers and loos I have ever used on a campsite, no fires tho :(. Has a cafe which does good breakfasts too. Pub is only 100yds up road which is a bonus

The campsite in Braithwaite does get busy, but has an overspill field across the main road, if you want it more quiet and secluded.

Scotgate in Braithwaite.

Excellent site! Best toilets/showers as above, nice shop and cafe, and when you're finished on the Altura trail, instead of following the road, follow the C2C instead for a nice traffic free descent
