MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Afternoon....
I'm just putting together CVs ahead of job/networking etc. Now I've also decided to do a website as a bit of a hub about me - career/interests/blog etc as a way of getting people to look at what I've been up to that isn't facebook (innapropriate) or twitter (potty mouthed).
I've come across moonfruit and the UI looks good, lets me buy a proper domain and generally looks like a pretty smooth way of putting up a credible looking site without paying someone to do it for me.
Has anyone used this, and am I missing something? is it best to just get a wordpress template and use that or is this fine for my needs?
I know nothing will substitute paying someone to do it properly but assuming I'm not going to do that - is this a good compromise?
Cheers!
Why not just use LinkedIn/Blogger/Wordpress instead?
Having a whole website dedicated to yourself seems a little, erm, poncy to me. But I know nothing of self promotion so feel free to disregard my post 🙂
Just trying to stand out from the 2 sheets of A4 Cv that most people have. I agree - self promotion isn't my fave thing to be honest, but needs must.
On that note, anyone want to gizza job? 😉
LinkedIn is what you what - it's targeted for career history, recommendations, interests etc. I wouldn't bother with a blog - no potential employer will have time to read it. If you really do feel you need one, set up a Blogger account, and link from your LinkedIn profile to it.
Jimbo,
Until last week I operated a wordpress site and had done so for a about a year. I found the UI and the link with my webspace provider a bit clunky so shopped around for something integrated and came across squarespace. It looks fairly similar to Moonfruit in terms of pricing and features and is definately worth a look. It also includes a free domain and email and is pretty idiot proof (which I need when it comes to this kind of thing). Type Gimme10 in the voucher box when upgrading and you get 10% off.
I created my new site on Sunday in about 5 hoursshiny new website. There's a few loose ends to tie off but I'm very happy with it. I emailed the support team a question regarding linking to facebook and received a detailed answer within 10 minutes. Can't complain so far.
