How tall are you?
I used to have a Heckler Medium and i`m 5'7", was a bit big to be honest and would go for a small if i decided to get one again!
thats what I feared, I have a small and its too small. Grrrr. What type of riding did you use it for?
I mainly used it for general trail riding and XC.
I should point out this was the older frame design, 2002 frame I think, so not sure how much the geometry has changed for the more recent frame.
How tall are you Jimmy?!
teetosugars has a L and said they come up short IIRC (he's on hols atm)
I have a L 2003 one but I'm 6'
I ride a new style Medium & I'm 5'11". Borderline between Medium & Large, but I like my bikes small (I ride a small PA). Run it with a 70/80mm stem (can't quite remember exactly how long it is) and wide bars, and it's fine for South Wales & was great in the Alps....
Mind you, don't ride it much at the moment as am really enjoying riding the PA......
Alex
I've ride a medium Bullit and I'm 6'2", but then I do like my bikes on the small side....
I had a medium heckler and I'm around 5'7"-8". Small was way to short.
I found Medium Heckler good to ride but a little close on the standover, I'm 5'7". Superlight in medium was just right 😉
Slight thread jack.
What do they ride like? Are parts easy to come buy when things wear out?
Thinking of buying one and just need a little info before i melt my bank balance!
Sofa - I've loved my heckler but as you can see its just too small for me (I'm 5'6"). Medium sounds like it would be just too big for playing about on. I wish if fitted me perfectly because whenever I have bike dilemmas it always boils down to the Heckler for everything / anything. And in 2 years it hasn't worn out so don't know, but thats got to be a good thing. I do need a rear mech hanger, for which £30 is a sticking point but the new ones are cheaper.
How bout a layback seat post and longer stem?!
Heckler bits are easy and cheap to get hold of (apart from the mahoosive mech hanger on the older version - that costs about £35).
Otherwise, there's only 2 bearings plus the shock bushes to worry about. I've just replaced mine after 3 years and 1.5 seasons of guiding in the Alps! 20-minute job and the back end feels brand new again.
I'm just under 5'11". I had an older style Heckler in M which was just fine. However, I swapped it for a new one and TBH I found the top tube too short. I am a bit oddly shaped though shortsih legs and long body.
Recently swapped for an 18" Orange 5 which is a much better fit - for me anyway.
Jimmy have you tried one? Seems odd to me that one size is too wee then the next is too big...there's just the usual gap between sizes.
Al - no, I'd like to. Was on a ride recently with a guy on one, but forgot to grab it at the end to try. They look big for a medium in the flesh, though.
Spinout - likewise I tried a small 5 and it was perfect. I just like Heckler. Could be a losing battle.
I'd be surprised if there was no one on here that could give you a shot of theirs (I see you are in the burgh)
Aye, well I'm looking to ride at the weekend.... heh, where'd everyone go?
I miss my Heckler, does look a bit too small in that pic tho.
Hmmm, don`t FSA make a seatpost with varying degrees of layback, could be a good compromise.
I had similar issues with my current bike, the gap between the Giant trance X0 in small and medium seems to be very big, the medium felt huge compared to the small.
I'm a giant 5"6 and ride a medium new shaped heckler. I often wondered if a small would be better, but to be honest the medium is fine. I run a 50mm stem on it and the reach is pretty much right.
I think the small may have been just a bit too small for all day riding. I also have a small size bullit and that is prefect for its intented use.
