There's a good chance I'll be working in either Canada (Nova Scotia) or America (Virginia). Looking to sell up my bikes here and buy over there, but wondering what kind of bargains I can expect...

For Canada i'm looking at a trail/enduro bike, but for Virginia i'll probably start with a road bike.

This might be a stupid question, but is there an equivalent of PlanetX out there (I'm aware they have a US shop). For example, what's the US alternative to the £1000 Ultegra road bike I could get here? Is jensonusa a good alternative to Chain Reaction?

Pricepoint.com have their own brand of bikes and components so may be worth a look. Jenson is good IMO.

Sometimes On-One does free or cheap shipping worldwide so may still be an option if you can wait a bit for delivery. Same for CRC.

Planet X are here!

http://www.planet-x-usa.com/

I've ordered from them and it was the usual quick service (they're based in Oregon I believe - I'm in California).

Chain Reaction also do free international delivery over £100 I believe, that was pretty quick too.

I've never got clobbered for import duty either.

'Merican brands are much cheaper here; Santa Cruz, Ibis, Yeti etc.

Research the local industry of having things shipped within US to just over the border from Canada popping over the border to collect. Everyone does it. Worked for me. Email me if need more details. CRC is also the cheapest mail order in Canada.

He'll be in Nova Scotia. No shared US border...
