Howdo,

I fancy a new bike. I currently use a Specialized Stumpjumper, 18' Im 5'11 btw

Im a singletrack/ trail centre type person, no downhill jumps or similar antics.

I have always bought a ready made MTB but I fancy a Cotic Soul, from research I would need a medium just wondered about all the other ancillaries. Im a road cyclist by trade so in the past Ive bought a groupset for any builds.

The bouncy fork and disc brakes are muddying the waters for me dont really know what to start with. I dont want to spend a huge amount in total mibbes £1500 max.

Just wanted some suggestions from folk who have been there and done it.

Cheers

I would think something like a reba dual air with maxle, SLX disc brakes and groupset (look at the rosebikes thread or on-one), thomson or easton stem/post, easton bars, pro 2 hubs and stans crest rims, with high rollers or similar tyres would be the choice of most off here

I did the same. Came from road, where I had always bought off the shelf, then got into building my own mtbs. Its really simple and quite satisfying. Done a few now. Watch for compatibility issues and sizing of parts. Sites like Sheldon Brown can be useful in this respect. Steerer on forks would be an obvious example - you will see nice deals on forks with 1.5" steerers but this is likely to be too big.

It probably works out cheaper if you want a high spec bike and shop around for parts, perhaps buy frame second hand. You are still likely to end up spending quite a bit though and there will probably be deals on complete bikes that are cheaper. Having said that I have enjoyed playing at being a mechanic.
