I’ve never had a curry with Brant, but I’ve owned a sledge. What do I win?
My On One Inbred SS got me into MTBing (the frame is in the attic). Their tyres are good. My second hand £25 Pompino did pretty good a few weeks back.....

@Terrahawk- 2 sit down curries- aha I see, one was pleasurable one was not 😝
shirley you should be bombay flaming Brant over that 😜
I take it he's back to develop a new sweat resistant helmet strap material 🤔 who else could PX/OO turn to.
When i think about it nearly all my frames are on one/ planet x. My inbread has been single speed, rigid mtb and now is a fat tyred, drop bar commuter.
Some time ago in this thread, newrobdob spaketh thus:-

This evening, thanks to the new "replies created" feature, I've been able to find my apology to you over the matter you have been repeatedly bringing up in every single on-one related interaction on the forum.
In the link below, nine years ago, when you raised the problem that yourself and your brother (PeterPoddy's) were having, I apologised about the chainsuck, and indicated that future models were improved.
My now legendary "hit it with a hammer" suggestion about frame indentation is a quote from the truly legendary Dave Yates, who always chuckles when people asked for "local ovalisation" of frame tubes. It's not done with a magic machine.
My son is now riding my old 20” dark blue 456 with 130mm forks and old XT kit on it. It gets ridden and abused non stop. He loves it cos it’s retro innit. He had a 16” inbred before that. It’s taught him how to ride pick lines read the trail etc so if he passes his GCSE’s this summer with his expected grades I’ve promised him a full sus. I suspect he’ll ride the 456 most. He just likes 26” wheeled bikes.
Had a London Road when living in the UK. No issue with seatpost, and good bike to ride.
Wished I kept it.
STWers do have long memories...Superstar/Neil threads will normally generate the usual pad separation or fitted the crankset with a rock comments 😐
To be fair to PP he liked his inbred 853 so much even when his chainstay got stuffed, he replaced the chainstay instead of binning the frame.
Anyway Brant did improve the chainstay clearance with his 3 finger bridge design...just happened to be for Ragley, not OO 😄

😂
I think that’s probably how old my ‘grudge’ against On One is. I’m still not ready to give them another chance.
I had an issue with a brake caliper on a Mazda6 once. It was such a terrible design, even the main dealer thought it was crap. Apparently other owners were having the same problem.
I didn't spend the rest of my life complaining about it on the internet at every opportunity.
I had an issue with a brake caliper on a Mazda6 once
Are you still banging on about that?
🙂
Sorry, I've let you all down... again.
😉
I bought one of the 853 anniversary Inbreds back in 2007? and I did have a few issues with chainring clearance. Carefully indented mine using a socket and a hammer and just rode it. The chainstay finally went 5 years later, I probably didn't help running 22/36. Still liked it so much I had a Ragley style 3 finger bridge fitted to replace that part of the chainstay and I am still riding it. It's morphed in to my monstercross / bikepacking / adventure bike
My wife still rides one of the older Inbreds (cables on top of top tube) which she loves.
Had a Pompino for a while, that was ace but SS was too hard for me 🙂
I'd buy another steel bike from them, maybe not carbon though

Have you tried letting him take a photo of your van in a trail centre car park?
>Have you tried letting him take a photo of your van

I don't own a van. I hate trail centres.
I don’t own a van. I hate trail centres.
I think we can all see where you are going wrong then
I finally forgave fruit and started buying Superstar stuff again a year or so back.
He's not noticed but I feel better for putting my grudge to one side.
People should try it.
I also feel bad about Northwind's carbon warranty issue. But he likes his Ragley Ti so I kind of feel that makes up for it.
Unfortunately the apology you have found didn't give me back the large amount of money I lost on that frame when I sold it. I saved up for months to buy that frame from my wages so it hurt a lot (had to get my first CC to buy a replacement). And it had nothing to do with the drivetrain as you well know, you didn't build any clearance into the RH chainstay so if the chain did make its way between the chainset and the frame (quite easy even on a new drivetrain) the chain jammed solid, which over time gouged out the metal leading to frame failure. I've ridden and spannered enough bikes (I actually met you at the Malverns when you were Zak Tempest I've been around that long) to know what isn't right.
My brother Peterpoddy proved it was the design of the frame as he got Argos Cycles to make/fit a brand new chainstay which was properly designed AND THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER REPEATED.
And also you forget the time you admitted you knew it was an issue before the frames were made and said "I should have really fixed that". I'll try and find a link for that one.
What about the original Inbred frame I had with the crap paint? Thankfully that was the only thing that failed, but the headtube was waay too short because (not 100% sure this is true as it was a long time ago when I read this so apologies if the details aren't right) you forgot to change the length of the head tubes when you ordered the different sized frames? And the brake mounts so so out of whack they had to be filed back quite a bit so you could fit a brake properly.
And what about the PX Kaffenback frame I had which after I ordered it was told that due to the chainstay/seatstay design I couldn't fit a cassette with a smallest cog larger than 11t as the chain would jam between the cassette and frame - yet they were still being sent out.
Not everyone has access to lots of bikes and frames and even an On-One/PX frame is a large amount of money for some people, including me. People have a right to buy something which is designed and manufactured correctly. Now I may have been unlucky but I know a few people who won't touch OO/PX stuff again due to crap manufacturing/quality control or customer service, so I'm not alone. Yes a lot of people have good experiences but there are too many who haven't.
Yes its been a long time since I personally have had problems (friends have more recent crappy experience) but such was the crappy experience I have had I won't forget it. I did once order some stuff from PX about 5 years ago and they couldn't get half the order right and never sorted it it, something which seems to be a motif of theirs.
In the retail business you reap what you sow and consumers have long memories. PX/OO decided to go down the knock-em out cheap and hope it'll be ok route (seem to be still on it) and I think the time is coming when it's going to come back and bite them, hard.

£5 he would rather just keep moaning about it. You can't put a price on that kind of angst.
newrobdob, so..; that's a "no" from you then..?
If you’re chipping in, we could start a GoFundMe.

Okay, but I want a photo of my car in a trail centre car park for my trouble.
Provide receipts.
oh come on, who keeps receipts for that long.
well played for trying to appear to care. 🙄 9yrs too late than OO should've done anything about it.
Those 853 Inbreds were the nicest steel frame I ever rode. Fantastic value for £250 as well. Dont know what it was that made them ride so well. Think I ended up with 3 in various guises. Only thing that rides as well is my Stanton Sherpa and I have had a lot of On Ones, Singulars, Niners, Cotics etc etc in the mean time. But yeah the chainstay clearance to chainring really was rubbish!
I havent bought anything from Planet X for a while either. Think for me its the chaotic pricing and postage for one. I see something I like, and when I go back the price has changed, so I just think meh and look else where. The other thing as well is the names of the bikes that puts me right off. Pickenflick (what a bogey??), Bish Bash Bosh (doesnt really ooze quality does it - friday afternoon build?). Some of the well documented QC issues are a bit off putting as well. And wtf is going on with the ice cream cones on the Holdsworth range?
Thats said for balance, Planet X are currently returning an 8 year old frame to the manufacturer for its second repair under its lifetime warranty - there was no quibbling about it either. Not many other suppliers would do that. The frame has been very well used.
I do hope Brant back there produces a bit more commercial, brand and quality consistency.
oh come on, who keeps receipts for that long.

It's quite a long time to hold a grudge about the failure of a very cheap frame too.

Well, I've still got all of the receipts for my Roberts DogBolx that I built up 17 years ago.
> Fantastic value for £250 as well.
**** it. I'll just send him £250.
Paypal address please newrobdob
Is it?
If you get a poor product and service why continue to use that company. I point blank refuse to deal with Arnold Clark due to their shite CS. from years ago.
once bitten....
It’s quite a long time to hold a grudge about the failure of a very cheap frame too.
Not really. He is posting on a thread about on-one along with others sharing their experiences and stories. It's not like he took an ad out in a bike mag and it's not like it was a one off event 9 years ago either, quality of product and service has been shite ever since.
Tough crowd today!
Congrats on the new role brant, I had a Blue Pig X which I loved, sold it to a madman who bent it in half casing a double at BUCS.
As much as OO/PX may have problems with various parts of the business, brant has only just rejoined them... Give the man a chance to effect change, eh? No need for some of the aggression on here, calm it doon.
Aggression? Get a grip FFS!
Hahaha exactly
I think it says more about you than anything.
TBH it's probably more to do with the industry and how it's changed and is still changing.
Now is probably the first time that I haven't got an On-one of some description in the garage (sold my last one to buy a road bike boo!!)
Had a white 26" Inbred, 29er Scandal and a 29er Inbred - all were spot on, and no QC issues (apart from me having to do the hammer trick on the 26" Inbred) - and rode brilliantly.
The recent frames haven't floated my boat (Deedar, Parkwood etc) Looking forward to seeing what Brant can do. I certainly wouldn't rule out another On-one in my near future.

Yes really :-), because in this case it's more like a bitter grudge, than merely repeating experiences. And a decade is a looooooong time to have been banging on about it. FWIW I couldn't give a toss about On One either way.
Well, this thread suddenly got interesting.
"Unfortunately the apology you have found didn’t give me back the large amount of money I lost on that frame when I sold it."
- how much money did you lose - be honest! </span>
"I saved up for months to buy that frame from my wages so it hurt a lot (had to get my first CC to buy a replacement)"
- you did not HAVE to get a CC. You chose to to do this, grow up.

No need to get aggressive :-), he is just 'sharing experiences' 🙂

Can't say fairer than that! Absolutely shoots down all "bad CS" bullshit. Brant can't be held historically responsible for old issues (FFS it's a website about bikes with a few grumpy old men as main players, not warcrimes trials at The Hague), but he's shown a fantastic willingness here to try and resolve what is clearly a highly emotionally charged issue for newrobdob. I'd take that as a great statement of intent as to where he wants to position product, service and support for the brand now it's back under his tenure.
Fair play Brant, fair play.
Just to balance things out a bit the Stif Morf is an extremely sweet bike. Not On One, but Brant designed and a great bike. Would’ve kept it if my aging bones weren’t asking me for a full suspension 😕
Brant as your up for pinging money about I had an order from px/o years ago that took a day longer than usual to turn up. I’m traumatised to this day 🙁
£20 will cure me 🙂
I made the mistake of selling my 29er SS Inbred. I used the cash plus added more of my own, to buy a more boutique 853 frame from another northern HT specialist. I can't say it was any better, but lots of people went 'ooh, nice frame' when they saw it. But it then cracked, and because I wasn't the original owner they wouldn't commit to repairing, but would 'try it' at my cost. So i resold to someone who had better skilz than me and to my knowledge they welded a new reinforcing collar around where it had cracked and it's still being used.
I feel for being daft, I ought to send Brant some money?
