"I still find it hilarious that they bought all of Jimmy Saville’s bikes after he died…
And then, we’ll, we all know what happened next. 🙈😂😂😂"
They bought his armchair too?
PX/OO have definitely had a bad patch over a few years, with the brand (and its leadership) taking it in a fairly ghastly direction. I'm no brand snob either, so over the years i've picked up quite a few things i've thought as genuine bargains - things that perform well, are still in use. which i am still more than happy with.
I'd be happy to see some old names re-booted, some weird/niche machines, and decent rigid options. A quick tally of the seven family bikes shows 4 O-Os designed by Brant, all seeing lots of use and holding up well (456, Inbred, Scandal, Parkwood)...so i probably don't actually need anything new!
>@Brant – did you design the Sonder Camino
The first one. Sorry. What’s wrong with it?
Nowt, I love it, it's the only bike I ride nowadays.
Thanks!!
I really like my codeine and my pompetamine.
Would like to see a new version of the codeine 29 that's a bit longer, has better standover and a stealth dropper port
I have bought loads from on one and have never had any issues.
Quite liked on one/PX back in the day. Bought a fair bit between about 2000 and 2008. At that point it was endearingly quirky. I've still got a pre used OO ti cross that they quite literally stumbled over when looking for something entirely different on the phone for me and I bought on a whim. You often had to make contact a 2nd or 3rd time to get something sorted but it was Dave or Brant (or the guy who ran the triathlon side who's name now escapes me who left to start a bikefit firm) that picked up the phone or email and they'd always 'do you right'.
It didn't seem to scale up well though. Erratic customer service doesn't work when done by people not so close to the decision making and less invested in the company. And all the extra brands just watered it all down and made it flabby and confusing. Sales went from an occasional 'Dave has the VAT bill to pay, everything must go to liquidate some stock' purges to the yoyo pricing with prices changing daily and every day being a sales day. My relationship with them pretty much came to an end when the spamming with sales emails became daily or even multiples a day rather than an entertaining weekly or biweekly well written and crafted effort. I blocked the lot and tbh have not been back since. Today sadly it never enters my head to go to the website to look for stuff.
Shame. I'm not sure it can do a phoenix from the fire. It's probably financially still keeping Dave fed and watered (maybe more so now than when it had almost universal love) but in terms of brand cache it might be done.
I think their problems started when Dave got senior managers in who were there purely to get it ready to sell/float with (I imagine) some sort of share/cash bonus when the sale happened. He then changed his mind and they all up sticks shortly afterwards. The scaling up kind of foundered at that point and problems started. Then they got rid of a lot of experienced staff and contracted out a lot of jobs and it got worse.
I still look at their emails but I've not bought from them for a few years whereas I used to use them for consumables quite frequently.
Oh, and brant - thanks re: the Cut Gate - glad to hear that it worked out (albeit in a very limited edition way!)
Not really dealt with them a great deal, I have a Codeine 29 that I got s/h. It rides great though, cant fault it for the ridiculous price i picked it up for.
I won’t even buy a tyre from their website
You should - you might even get the compound/ quality advertised - unlike the last few sets i've bought.
I too was a fanboi - inbred, pompino, 456, inbred 29, scandal 29. but i've been burned, too many times.
I had an On One Inbred I was gifted from a friend after it fell off the back of his car and he claimed for a new bike on his house insurance
It was solid and rode great for several years until I sold it
I can only presume the 80mph collision with the surface of the A43 was more effective than their own QA department in straightening the tubes out:)
Never owned any of their bikes, but have ridden a mates Fatty Trail and that seems a pretty sorted bike.
Have their dual compound Chunky Monkey and Smorgasbord tyres on my FS and HT - can't fault them for the price.
Also had one of the Enduro Helmets - really cheap and comfort issue fixed with a bit of spare padding and Velcro.
Delivery has been somewhere between quick and snails pace though.
I spent so long hovering over the buy button on a 29er inbred frame before deciding that I "needed" a frame that would officially take a 120mm fork. I'll still be tempted if one of those appears, even though i've got a fancy steel frame now.
Anyone seen the latest px price structure?
They've introduced for a short time free postage but Increased the price of everything.
For example the px buff was £1. Its now £2.99.
Before post was £3.95 so now shopping with them is far more expensive. How is this free postage?
There's no such thing as free postage, every company has to hide the costs somewhere....
so now shopping with them is far more expensive
Apart from if you bought that px buff......where you just saved 96p.
Looks like damascus had the same maths teacher as Dianne Abbott!
I assume he was going to buy 2?
I'd rather shops charged a fair amount for postage, a lot if car parts places either total up the weight/volume of the order and just add the cheapest postage option to it from a database.
Even if they did make a profit on that buff at 99p, you can't honestly say you expected them to cover the cost of packaging and posting it to you as well for that price?
"Looks like damascus had the same maths teacher as Dianne Abbott!"
😂
If postage was £3.95 before but now every item has £2 added to it then after 2 items its more expensive. I'm pretty sure my maths are OK.
When do we ever just buy one item? I always bulk out an order with things I don't need.
I'd rather just have a simple postage policy than randomly changing prices all the time.

But your concept of an illustrative example is bobbins!
For reference I often buy a single item - don't assume everyone's purchase habits are the same as your own. Also has every item gone up by £2 do you know?
I wonder what conversion Damascus was using...
It was mostly a load of old tat that others couldn’t sell, I bet there are a couple of boxes of haiwan shirts in Brent’s garage, should have slapped a 'made in God’s own country' label on them and gave them away free with a pair of artisan trousers while he had the chance.
Burnt too many times with appalling customer service, wrong items shipped and non-existent product support. I will not buy from them again unless there is a very significant change.
yep, some great prices, but being caught out and having to endure their frankly appauling customer service department (who basically called me a liar ) I would nt buy from them again
had a obvious manufacturing fault with a carbon product, and they offered to sell me a crash replacement - so kind of them - even though it had never been used !!!!!
Brant, congrats on the new role.
Surely Brant is a freelance designer, so not so much as a 'role' as a 'contract'.
I'm sure he'll design some great bikes, and plays his part in spec'ing for QC etc. However I doubt pricing, dispatch or customer service are anything to do with him. Same as with Ragley, Sonder, Nukeproof etc.
I'm sure it will have been different at On One once upon a time, but I doubt he'll be taking back all the responsibility he once had.
And I think the trouser business can stand on it's own two legs whilst he designs bikes.
My boy has a OO Inbred. I had given up biking and he wanted a bike, so I built one up using my parts
XTR mech
XT Cranks
Hope/DT wheels
Chris king headset
Avid brakes
Hope stem
RS Reba SL with about 5hrs serious riding on them
Its now used to take him to meet his mates to play football 🙁
I won’t even buy a tyre from their website
I did. Well I say I did, I ordered a tyre on the 16th July. I've had an order confirmation.
But no tyre yet, which is surprising since on the email it says...
We aim to ship all orders (excluding bikes) placed before 5pm and using DHL, Royal Mail or Yodel Monday to Friday GMT (UK) on the same working day although this may not always be possible during busy trading periods and may be 3 to 5 working days
So having been used to other online retailers getting stuff to me within a couple of days I very much doubt I'll use them again.
I ****ing loved my C456
I would contemplate another actually.
Got a 456 and a god awful colour Fatty Trail. Love 'em both.
Surely Brant is a freelance designer, so not so much as a ‘role’ as a ‘contract’.
Last time around he was an employee, he posted a pic of his P45 online when he left..
I had a Compo and it was brilliant, and I have a Ti-Inbred, and it's brilliant, and an ordinary white Inbred which is OK.
Not sure if that answers the question.
Didn’t you also have a Ti cross frame?
I like brant's bikes. They suit my riding style. I had a cotic soul for a while which was very much aimed at the aggressive rider - over the fork and riding it through the corners. I much preferred my inbreds (plain steel, "upgraded" to cotic soul, replaced with bloody lovely 853 inbred - rip, bent the rear triangle - replaced by a Blue pig) and the brantbikes were more "point it downhill, hang on for grim death and hope to god you're still on at the bottom". Currently riding a scandal 29er, another brantbike.
was there a question?
The only bike I've ever had that I would never sell was designed by Brant. And he bought me a proper sit-down curry once.
Good times.
edit: he bought me 2 sit-down curries
Had a 456 Summer Season, brilliant bike now passed on to someone far more capable, and currently own a Fatty Trail which has probably been ridden more than any of my other bikes in the last year or so.
What's happened to the pictures/information that was around a couple of weeks ago about the new On One Fat Frank? Tried unsuccessfully to find it again yesterday, possibly leaked out before it should have been?
To further show the total ineptitude of OO/PX I just had a quick glance at their website and the advert at the bottom was trying to sell me a sledge. Yes for use on snow. On the hottest day of the year.
Maybe if they concentrated on keeping the paint on their frames or making seat tubes the right size to instead of buying in sledges (for a cycling company to sell) they might get a better reputation.
Had a bright pink Scandal 29er. It was lush. But it got nicked. Would have another one in a shot.

Idiots eh. And look at these morons here, selling sledges in nice weather. https://www.sledges.co.uk/
Charity shop down the road from me has got UMBRELLAS in the window. Fools!
Idiots. What sort of vehicles do they park at trail centre car parks?

There was an ice cream van on our street last night and I didn't want one. Time waster.
I've had a curry with Brant too. I feel that I must declare this.

I’ve had a Curry too. But not with Brant 😫
Although we did work in a Leeds bike shop together many moons ago, so we might have had chips from the place round the corner a few times 🤔
I haven't had a curry and I haven't met Brant. I have owned a couple of On-one frames (an Inbred and a Pompino)
Both were good to ride and fitted the cheap and cheerful category that my frames tend to be in. The paint wasn't of best quality even in that category and my current cheap and cheerful frameset is a Dolan Pre Cursa which has great paint so it can be done.
I was given a C456 frame by a mate to use as a winter hardtail. I put some 160 mm forks on it and haven't looked back. Great bike, although it does look a bit tatty.
I've seen a guy called David Brent eat a curry on a TV show.
Brant bought me a beer once. He was trying to get me into his trousers
