I think this must be the first time I've tried fitting a BB to a brand new never built up frame.
I'm struggling to gert the BB cups in and wondering the easiest way to make sure ir goes in straight without cross threading and how much force to add.
Any good guides anywhere.
Standard square taper if that makes and difference.
Assuming that the shell and cups are okay: -
make sure you're threading the correct cup into each side. One is LH thread, the other is RH thread.
I always unscrew the cups with a little forward pressure and when the threads line up, you feel a failt click. Then you can start to screw them in by hand. If they don't go in by hand a few turns, back out and try again. if they wont play, it could be drit or damage on the threads.
Once you've got about 3 threads by hand, you can use a tool. if it suddenly gets tight but obviously isn't all the way in, back out and check for swarf.
Gotta be one of my least favourite jobs on a bike.
It's not going at all by hand think I may have to take to to a shop and have it fitted, didn't really want to have to do that.
Having the threads chased and the BB shell faced is a jolly good idea and makes everything easier and last longer.
Edit - Ahh, square taper IGNORE
Bananaworld is probably right, but if you can get one cup in, thread the other cup onto the crank spindle, then insert the crank spindle through the bottom bracket and use it as a guide. Doesn't guarantee the cup will go in but it makes it very difficult to cross thread it as it pretty much has to be square to put the cup in the shell.
