[Closed] Bonus pages in the mag? You lucky people

Hello! Doesn't that new issue look great? All upside down and right way up and stuff. It was a right pain to try to proof and to upload upsidedown pages to the printer and all that.

Such crazy, innovative and quirky publishing does come with risks and something along the way has gone awry, meaning that there are some duplicated pages in the new issue (p46, 47, 48) and a 1588 word hole in Dean Hersey's great feature about the future of bike technology.

Oh, well, these things happen... (Who can remember MBUK's great Mint Sauce calendar where the hanging hole was punched at the wrong end, eh?) and whether the gremlin was with us or the printers, I'm sorry about that. We'll run Dean's feature full length up here on the web for all to see and if anyone really needs those missing words in a hurry, I'll read it to them down the phone 🙂

Stuff happens - mag looks great regardless with the double front cover. Bike fettling and curry making means I've not actually read any of it yet. It would probably have taken me a week to spot it anyway. 👍

I volunteer to proof read future issues so it doesn't happen again

Hope Cannondale have to pay for both ads!
Great work on the mag, must be annoying to have the little errors on something you’ve worked so hard on.

New mag looks great. Can’t wait to sit down and have a read (minus c.1,500 words) with a brew and a biscuit or twelve tomorrow.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that. Our printer has a great auto planning system but I can only think of one ‘guaranteed’ way to get it right. Even with all that I can still remember coming into the Studio one morning after the papers had been distributed to be asked why 16 pages of our Oxford based property section had houses in Essex featured. Luckily I could cover our ass by pointing out there was no way we had access to that artwork so we got our money back.

How does one qualify as a big hitter?

Will the same apply for the the 40 year special edition, asking for a friend?

Its when they take it to The Repair Shop to get it back to 'better than new' that we know the world's gone mad..

I like the Antique Roadshow idea...

“...we hear that a collector in Los Angeles has the majority of the original missing words in his collection... Unfortunately, 18 of the original words are still in a Swiss vault, so we’re not sure the masterpiece will ever be complete...” 😊

“Now if you only had the original tea towel to go with it. These are so often lost over time...”

I would be interested to hear why the change from compostable packaging to the paper?

(Genuine question - I'm unfamiliar with pluses/minuses of both)

Too many of the potato wrapping mags were being damaged in transit. Plus the new tracking system (MailMark) we use for our bulk mailings was not compatible with the potato starch wrapping so while we were using it we couldn't upgrade the service.

The new service uses tracking codes that will allow us to track missing issues.

I prefer the paper, it goes on the compost heap whereas the potato-plastic went in the bin.

We do have a council compost bin that it could go in, but I'm not starting yet another recycling box!

My IET magazine started coming in the potato-starch packaging for a couple of months.
They made a massive thing about rolling out this new eco-packaging, but it caused so many problems that they soon switched to paper envelopes similar to the STW on that the latest mag arrived in.
