So we all need to ride the roads sometimes. Are you interested in contributing to the "bike strategy" for Farnborough/Aldershot etc area of Hampshire. (Rushmore Borough Council).

I have nothing whatsoever to do with the Council myself, but me and a few other local riders got lifted off a questionnaire we filled in some time, and asked along on Wed night by Rushmore Borough Council to a series of meetings designed to use cyclists experience to influence bike strategy for Rushmore.

Rushmore are quite serious about this, and the guy looking after biking transport policy is a also a cyclist. They want to create a forum to ask advice about strategy and changes.

So this (road stuff) is not exactly central to "Singlespeed" forum. But if you get frustrated by biking measures on the road which were clearly not designed by cyclists, and want to change stuff, then this could be for you. I said I'd put out a message at my work, and also on one or two bike forums to raise interest. Wed night we had five or six members of Rushmore BC listening to about four local cyclists. This was only their first meeting though. They had maps and specific project proposals on the table. Detailed stuff needing constructive suggestions.

They aim to raise the numbers on the forum, and meet perhaps quarterly, with an email list. You would be asked about bike strategy for the area, and given the chance to comment and influence proposals.

I explained that I avoid roads wherever possible, and while I am on them, I often have little time for the bike lanes. When I'm with my family though, I do convert to Granny mode, then safety and good bike lanes suddenly become high priority. - Perhaps that's you? They are very serious about listening to anyone with a bike who has stuff to say.

If you are in the area and want to go to the next meeting (which is March 25), then email John Trusler, Capital projects Engineer Traffic.managment@rushmoor.gov.uk. Expect an hour or two, tea, coffee, maps, opinions, arguments and engineers drawings.

I warned John that they may get some spam if I published that mail, but it’s not his personal email and Rushmore BC seem OK about it. You might also want to drop me a line off my profile email. (I don’t always pick those up for a day or two though).

Rgds

I'm in Farnborough and riding is my main form of transport, so I'm up for getting involved in this. Will drop Rushmoor BC a line.
