[#1652602]

Interested in a pair of wheels which have a 20mm front axle - not bought any forks yet - will i be restricted from purchasing any brand of forks because the front wheel has a 20mm axle and not the standard 15mm?

I can get a conversion kit to change it to QR - but not to change it to a 15mm axle - or so i'm told?

You tech folk, help me......

EVERYONE make 20mm axle forks, but not everyone makes 15mm axles yet (Although I imagine they will soon) so you'll be fine. ๐Ÿ™‚

Fox stuff though is only 20mm on the 36's and up isn't it? Personally I'd decide now on what fork you'll run, or get a hub that converts between qr, 15mm and 20mm

I don't want QR, but I don't want to be restricted to only buying 20mm axle compatable forks if there was only a few to choose from, if everyone's still doing 20mm that's fine - but i thought we'd gone over the hill and a lot of forks we're now 15mm axle?

I can sell you some 20mm wheels if you want: here

It's these i want.

as said what travel are you looking at??

150mm and below it will restrict you away from fox / marz.

160mm + and 20mm axel everywhere

20mm is more versatile IMO.

You have the choice of Rock Shox excellent Reba and Rev Team forks, both with the lovely Maxle lite.

Then if you change bikes later they'll also go with Fox 36s, Lyriks, Totems whatever...

You've got to wonder if all 3 standards will exist in 5-10 years.

15mm seems a total waste of time to me.

15mm as Al correctly points out is a bit of a waste of time IMO.

20mm is what you want,

Bit pissed off to see RS giving in this year on the new models and releasing 15mm ones.

Yeah winds me up to - anyone know why Fox actually came up with 15mm? Were they having to pay licence costs for 20mm or something?

My impression is the fox 15 mm standard was agreed with shimano and was intended to lock people into that standard.
