can anyone recommend a pair of bibshorts that I don't need to sell a kidney to buy? They seem worryingly cheap or stupidly expensive so would like something decent

Decathlon BTWIN seem pretty good balance of fit, hardwearing and comfortable. I have a couple of pairs bought in the sale for £19 each and going strong after two years with no sign of falling apart. Pad and sticking all very good.

Santini photon

you can get them for just over 100 on Amazon and I think just as good if not better than shorts 3x the price

Dhb ones around £50 are spot on I’ve two pairs. Think they’re on sale at the moment. I have Rapha and assos shorts to compare so they are good for the money.

Few other colour ways too

Lusso and DHB have always been decent.

Depends how cheap though as I doubt they'll be £19!

A leftfield suggestion:

40 quid.  Decent pad, fit my body shape OK, seem to be lasting well, they do sales now and again too which makes them even more bargaintastic.

After trying Decathlon, Lusso and Pearl Izumi, I'd go for the Lusso. Decathlon ones are ok for the money, and the Pearl Izumi are expensive unless you can get them on offer ( or your missus had discount codes), so the Lusso won for me for value and comfort.

Another vote for DHB here, just don’t go for the really cheap ones (tbf I think the description still warns that they are only good for an hour or so) and you should be grand

I've been quite happy with a pair of DHB thermal bib longs and summer bib shorts since just before Xmas.

Some good deals on Funkier kit around like at Merlin, I find them good quality too.

If the Rivelos are still on Sportpursuit, they're well worth a try. Nicer than some more expensive Sugoi bibs I've got.

Is third Rivello and Pearl Izumi. Both on Sport Pursuit rivello come up smaller and PI larger. I’m a medium in R and small in PI. I’m 69!kg, 179 cm and 30” waist.

If pushed I’d go for Rivello, but they are both very nicely made shorts. £50 per pair is value, but not bargain. Materials are superb.

Decathlon every time, 700 or 900 series have the better pad. Love mine irrelevant of the price.

I'd also say Rivelo, strangely I wear medium and I'm 75kg with a 31" waist

Decathlon 900s are great - doubt you would find better value for money.

Bibs do last ages, though - esp if you're not commuting in them. One of the more sensible places to spend money on bike kit.

Another vote for Rivelo - I got mine for £40 at which price they were an absolute bargain, but I see they are currently £60, which would make them just good value. Much better than my £80 Castelli's.

DHB and Lusso are both good IME. Lusso are generous in the sizing.
