I am planning to take part in MTB Himachal - http://mtbhimachal.com What kind of an MTB would be best suited for this race?
I've ridden a bike bike round that area. I was loaded up with gear but rode Manali-Leh and some jeep tracks etc.
I rode Hardtail with 100m Forks, Specialized hemisphere Aramdillo tyres and V brakes.
I'd go with a hardtail and sus forks, discs should be fine obviously take pads and any spares you might need. A light bike would be nice for the climbs.
The biggest piece of advice with regard bikes though is to make sure its all tried and tested and reliable.
If they head up to the mountains from Shimla it will be awesome. I dont know about the organisers either but I expect it will be rather chaotic 🙂
I have no idea of the route but make no mistake, there big hills not far from there and the altiture can be very destructive.

The breakfast bread omlettes all have chilli in 😀
I didn't mean to sound overly negative about Himachal, lets just say I had some problems during my time there. Its a beautiful place with some of the friendliest people I've met anywhere.
